The FAG 2308 -2RS-TVH self-aligning ball bearing (40x90x33 mm) compensates for misalignment and protects the rolling elements on both sides from contamination.
The FAG 2308 -2RS-TVH self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6). The hollow-spherical outer ring raceway allows for the compensation of angular misalignment between the shaft and housing. With a bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 33 mm, the component primarily accommodates radial loads. Thanks to its integrated seal, this bearing is suitable for operating environments where dirt particles must be kept out.
This self-aligning ball bearing is used in designs where shaft deflection or misalignment between the bearing seats occurs. Typical applications include long shaft runs and bearing arrangements with more flexible housing structures. The double-row ball arrangement distributes radial forces across the raceways. As the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment during operation, it prevents edge loading and ensures smooth running.
The suffix 2RS denotes seals that contact the bearing on both sides, shielding the interior of the bearing from dust and moisture. The polyamide cage (TVH) guides the balls with low friction and ensures that the rotating components have a low weight. The bearing is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +100 degrees and features standard radial clearance as well as tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). Before installation, check whether this temperature range is suitable for your operating environment.
The bearing has a cylindrical bore of 40 mm, an outer diameter of 90 mm and a width of 33 mm. These dimensions apply to double-row self-aligning ball bearings of this size. Design engineers use these specifications to precisely match the bearing seat on the shaft with the housing fit.
The 2RS designation refers to abiding seals fitted on both sides, which minimise the ingress of solid particles and retain the lubricant inside. The designation TVH refers to the polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements. This design ensures low-friction operation of the rolling elements.
The outer ring has a continuous spherical raceway on which the two rows of balls can move freely. This allows the inner ring, together with the cage, to tilt within the design limits. The bearing compensates for misalignment of the bearing housings or elastic deflection of rotating shafts without causing harmful edge pressures.
Standard radial bearing clearance (often referred to as CN) defines the manufacturing-related internal clearance between the balls and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This standard value is sufficient for the majority of standard industrial applications where conventional fits are selected and there are no significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +100 degrees Celsius. The limiting factors here are the polyamide cage and the material of the sealing lips that come into contact with it. At sustained temperatures above this range, the plastic cage may lose strength; therefore, the thermal load on the bearing should be checked in advance.
The inner ring, outer ring and the two rows of balls are made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). This material offers high hardness and dimensional stability under load. In conjunction with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), the material ensures smooth guidance of the rolling elements during normal operation.
