The FAG 2209 -K-2RS-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing compensates for misalignment and combines a tapered bore with 2RS seals on both sides for demanding shaft systems.
The 2209 -K-2RS-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, with dimensions of 45 x 85 x 23 mm. Thanks to the common hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the bearing flexibly compensates for misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The manufacturer, FAG, equips this variant with contacting 2RS lip seals and a lightweight polyamide cage, which reduces friction and retains the lubricant inside the bearing.
This double-row bearing is particularly suitable where shaft deflection or assembly inaccuracies may occur. The self-aligning movement compensates for angular misalignment during operation without generating excessive edge pressures on the rolling elements. Thanks to the 2RS seals on both sides, this design protects the system against the ingress of dust and moisture. The bearing covers a temperature range from –30 to +100 degrees Celsius and is suitable for shaft mountings requiring elastic behaviour.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on adapter sleeves or directly onto tapered shaft seats. When pressed onto the tapered seat, the radial clearance in the bearing is reduced. The factory-set increased bearing clearance C3 specifically counteracts this press-fit effect. Furthermore, the increased bearing clearance helps to maintain the radial bearing clearance during operation-induced heating. In terms of design, the bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The dimensions are 45 mm bore diameter, 85 mm outer diameter and 23 mm width. Due to the tapered design of the internal bore, with a taper ratio of 1:12, the clear diameter varies axially, enabling a frictional fit on tapered shaft seats or mounting sleeves.
The ‘K’ refers to the tapered bore with a 1:12 taper. The abbreviation ‘2RS’ indicates grinding sealing lips fitted on both sides. ‘TVH’ refers to the polyamide cage, whilst ‘C3’ describes a radial bearing clearance that is greater than that of standard bearings.
The polyamide cage is lightweight and is characterised by good sliding properties and quiet operation. The material elastically absorbs brief bursts of acceleration. The permissible operating temperature range for this cage design is from -30 to +100 degrees Celsius.
When the inner ring is slid onto a tapered shaft or adapter sleeve, it expands, thereby reducing the radial operating clearance. The increased bearing clearance class C3 maintains sufficient residual clearance after press-fitting and compensates for thermal expansion during operation.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +100 degrees Celsius. Both the material of the sliding seals and the polyamide cage are designed to withstand this temperature range.
The elastic sealing lips of the 2RS seal make contact with the inner ring. They keep the factory-applied lubricant inside and shield the rolling elements from solid contaminants and moisture, thereby reducing the need for external protection.
