The FAG 2208-TVH self-aligning ball bearing, with dimensions of 40 × 80 × 23 mm and a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, compensates for shaft deflection.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 2208-TVH is an open rolling bearing made from conventional standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6). Thanks to the continuous, hollow-spherical raceway of the outer ring, the bearing self-aligns in the event of misalignment. As a result, this component compensates for static misalignment errors as well as dynamic shaft deflection during operation. The product is manufactured by FAG and complies with the specifications of tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
Designs featuring long shafts or split housings are prone to misalignment and elastic deflection during operation. It is precisely in such bearing arrangements that this component comes into its own. The two rows of balls absorb radial loads, whilst the bearing compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings. As this is an open design without sealing washers, the bearing must be incorporated into an external lubrication system using oil or grease.
The suffix ‘TVH’ denotes a polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements and ensures quiet operation. This material reduces the cage’s weight and withstands loads within a temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees. Fitted with standard radial bearing clearance and a cylindrical bore, the inner ring can be mounted directly onto a 40 mm shaft. When designing the bearing, take into account the temperature range and the need for on-site sealing against contaminants.
This double-row roller bearing has an inside diameter of 40 mm, an outside diameter of 80 mm and a width of 23 mm. Thanks to these key dimensions and the standard inner ring, the bearing fits onto cylindrical shaft seats of the corresponding dimensions.
The designation TVH indicates a cage made of polyamide. Cages made from this plastic are characterised by their elasticity and low weight. They ensure smooth bearing operation and are suitable for operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees.
The outer ring has a single spherical raceway for both rows of balls. If angular misalignment occurs due to housing misalignment or shaft deflection, the ball-inner ring assembly pivots within the outer ring. In this way, the design helps to reduce additional edge stresses in the bearing.
The bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance, which corresponds to the standard range for this design. This clearance between the balls and raceways allows for free rotation under normal thermal and mechanical operating conditions without increased preload.
As this product is designed as an open version without integrated grinding or cover discs, lubrication is required. You must supply the bearing with grease or lubricating oil via the surrounding machine housing and seal the bearing housing to prevent the ingress of foreign particles.
The component is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. This classification defines the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for standard industrial use and meets the standard requirements for mechanical engineering and maintenance applications.
