The FAG 2205-TVH double-row self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 25 × 52 × 18 mm, compensates for misalignment and supports shafts prone to deflection.
The 2205-TVH self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing with a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway for shafts with a diameter of 25 mm. Thanks to this spherical geometry, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. FAG manufactures this type from standard bearing steel 100Cr6 with standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. The open design allows for direct lubricant supply via the surrounding structure.
Its use is particularly recommended where misalignment occurs between bearing seats or where shafts deflect elastically under load. The two rows of balls distribute radial forces evenly across the common spherical raceway of the outer ring. Typical areas of application are found in general mechanical engineering, particularly in long shaft runs prone to angular misalignment. As this is an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated assemblies.
The polyamide material gives the cage high elasticity and reduces the overall weight of the component. The TVH design is characterised by low-vibration operation and low friction. The bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that the 25x52x18 mm open self-aligning ball bearing requires a clean installation environment to prevent dirt particles from entering the unprotected raceways.
With a bore of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 18 mm, the bearing has standardised main dimensions. Before installation, the shaft seat and housing bore should be checked to ensure a correct fit for the inner and outer rings.
The suffix TVH denotes a solid polyamide cage which guides the rolling elements and keeps them spaced apart. This plastic cage reduces the weight of the component, dampens running noise and ensures low-friction operation. It is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The outer ring raceway of a self-aligning ball bearing is shaped as a continuous hollow spherical surface. This allows the assembly comprising the inner ring, cage and balls to tilt within the outer ring without becoming jammed. The bearing compensates for static angular misalignment during housing installation as well as dynamic deflection of rotating shafts.
As this model is designed as an open roller bearing without integrated sealing washers, it is not pre-lubricated with grease at the factory. The bearing housing must be filled with grease or lubricating oil during assembly. The surrounding housing should be fitted with external seals to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt.
Designed with standard radial bearing clearance, this model is suitable for standard fit conditions and operating temperatures. The dimensional and running accuracy corresponds to tolerance class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1). This classification meets standard requirements in mechanical engineering for concentricity and dimensional accuracy.
The rings and balls are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling-element bearing steel. This case-hardened chrome steel offers high dimensional stability and wear resistance under radial loads. In combination with the polyamide cage, the bearing remains operational within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
