The FAG 2205 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 25x52x18 mm, compensates for misalignment and provides increased radial clearance to accommodate thermal expansion.
The FAG 2205 -TVH-C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing is designed to support rotating shafts where deflection or misalignment occurs. Manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), this open bearing features a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This allows the two rows of balls to self-align in the event of misalignment. Tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1) defines the fit accuracy for repairs and new designs in mechanical engineering.
This bearing is primarily used where misalignment between the housing and the shaft needs to be compensated for. Thanks to the spherical outer ring raceway, the design accommodates operational angular misalignment without a significant increase in rotational resistance. As this is an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated housings; however, the bearing location must be sealed on site to protect against dirt and moisture.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed if the inner ring expands due to heat build-up during operation or tight fits. The designation TVH stands for a lightweight polyamide cage, which ensures smooth running. The permissible temperature range extends from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius and covers typical industrial applications.
The bearing has a cylindrical bore of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 52 mm and a width of 18 mm. These standardised dimensions allow for direct replacement in existing bearing seats in accordance with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
The C3 design offers greater radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways than a bearing with standard clearance. When the shaft and inner ring expand due to heat build-up during operation, the increased bearing clearance accommodates this expansion and counteracts excessive stress.
The abbreviation TVH refers to a cage made of polyamide, which keeps the two rows of balls at a distance from one another. The material reduces the weight of the roller bearing, dampens running noise and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The outer ring features a continuous, hollow spherical raceway for both rows of balls. If the shaft tilts due to assembly tolerances or shaft deflection, the balls pivot together with the inner ring within this spherical surface without causing edge pressure on the raceways.
As the bearing has no integral seals, externally supplied grease or lubricating oil reaches the contact surfaces directly. The bearing housing therefore requires an external housing seal to keep the lubricant within the bearing chamber and to keep out contaminants.
