The FAG 2203-TVH double-row self-aligning ball bearing with a 17 mm bore automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation.
The 2203-TVH self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing without increasing friction. With dimensions of a 17 mm bore, 40 mm outer diameter and 16 mm width, the component complies with tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). The open bearing has a standard radial clearance and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
It is primarily used on long shafts or in flexible structures where operational deflection or angular misalignment occurs. Typical applications are found in general mechanical engineering, particularly in shaft guides prone to deflection or misalignment. The double-row design primarily accommodates radial loads, but also allows for small axial forces in both directions. Thanks to its angular adjustability, the bearing counteracts edge pressures and promotes smooth running.
The polyamide cage, identified by the suffix ‘TVH’, is characterised by its low weight and high elasticity. This dampens vibrations and reduces running noise during operation. Furthermore, polyamide offers good sliding properties, which is advantageous at varying speeds. When selecting the bearing, please note the permissible temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. As the bearing is of an open design, you should incorporate an external seal and a suitable lubricant supply into the housing.
The bearing has a bore of 17 mm, an outer diameter of 40 mm and a width of 16 mm. Before fitting, check the shaft diameter and the bearing seat in the housing to ensure a precise fit.
The suffix TVH denotes a polyamide cage that guides the two rows of balls. This material reduces the weight of the moving parts and contributes to low-friction operation. The material determines the permissible temperature range, which for this design is between –30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
The outer ring has a continuous, hollow-spherical raceway in which the two rows of balls, together with the inner ring, can move freely. In the event of misalignment or slight shaft deflection, the inner ring pivots out of its central position. This ensures that the forces are distributed evenly, without edge pressure reducing the service life.
This model is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance, which is often designated as ‘CN’ by the manufacturer. Standard bearing clearance is suitable for normal operating temperatures and standard shaft fits. It helps to ensure that the required operating clearance for concentricity is maintained after the inner ring has been fitted.
As an open roller bearing, this design does not have integrated sealing washers. You must therefore protect the bearing location from the ingress of dirt or moisture via the housing. Depending on requirements, lubrication is carried out using grease or lubricating oil, which can be supplied via relubrication holes in the housing.
Tolerance class P0, also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1, defines the permissible dimensional and runout deviations in accordance with industry standards. It represents the standard for mechanical engineering applications. Components in this class offer precise guidance at economical manufacturing costs for common shaft and housing fits.
