At a glance: FAG 2202-TVH double-row self-aligning ball bearing (15 x 35 x 14 mm) made from roller bearing steel with a polyamide cage to compensate for static and dynamic misalignment.
The FAG 2202-TVH self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing with a spherical outer ring raceway, a 15 mm bore, an outer diameter of 35 mm and a width of 14 mm. Thanks to its design, this roller bearing automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. The open bearing is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees. This design is particularly suitable for bearing locations where misalignments arise due to manufacturing or load-related factors.
The double-row bearing is used in applications where shafts deflect elastically under load or where angular misalignment exists between the bearing positions. As the outer ring has a single spherical raceway for both rows of balls, the bearing compensates for misalignment through angular movement. This minimises edge pressures on the raceways and reduces friction effects caused by misalignment.
The suffix TVH denotes a polyamide cage, which ensures low weight and smooth running. When designing the application, it must be borne in mind that the bearing is unsealed. As there are no integrated sealing washers, lubricant reaches the raceways directly; however, a suitable housing seal is required to protect against contamination. With standard radial bearing clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the component meets standard requirements.
With a bore of 15 mm, an outside diameter of 35 mm and a total width of 14 mm, the double-row bearing has standardised metric dimensions. Thanks to the standard inner ring, the component can be mounted directly onto suitable cylindrical shaft seats.
At FAG, the abbreviation TVH stands for a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by a low moment of inertia and vibration-damping properties, ensuring smooth running. The cage is designed for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees and guides the balls in both rows evenly.
The inner ring of this double-row bearing has two raceways, whilst the outer ring features a continuous hollow spherical raceway. This spherical geometry allows the ball cages, together with the inner ring, to tilt within certain limits. Misalignment between the shaft and the housing, as well as elastic shaft deflection, are mechanically compensated for during operation.
This component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. The radial bearing clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways is dimensioned such that, under standard fits and at normal operating temperatures, no undesirable stresses arise. It meets typical requirements without the need for special preload or increased clearance.
As the bearing is designed as an open type without sealing washers, it is not filled with grease at the factory. Suitable lubrication with roller bearing grease or gear oil must be provided for operation. In addition, an external housing seal is required to retain the lubricant in the bearing housing and prevent the ingress of dirt.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. This operating range is determined by the thermal properties of the polyamide cage and the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. The lubricant used should also be selected so that its viscosity is suitable for the respective operating temperature within this range.
