The FAG 1212 -K-TVH-C3 double-row self-aligning ball bearing (60x110x22 mm) compensates for misalignment and features a tapered bore and increased C3 clearance.
The 1212 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing from FAG made from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6) with a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings, enabling the bearing to compensate for misalignment or shaft deflection during operation. With key dimensions of a 60 mm bore, 110 mm outer diameter and 22 mm width, as well as tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1), the open version is designed for a wide range of bearing applications in mechanical engineering.
The use of the 1212 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing is particularly recommended for bearing seats where elastic shaft deflection or misalignment between the bearing positions may occur. Thanks to the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the two rows of balls pivot freely. This counteracts the rolling elements becoming jammed in the event of angular misalignment. The polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low rolling noise and is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius. Typical applications include industrial drives and shaft bearings with larger bearing clearances under varying loads.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 (suffix K) allows for mounting directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, using a shrink sleeve, onto cylindrical shafts. During this process, the axial sliding of the inner ring measurably reduces the radial bearing clearance. The factory-set increased radial bearing clearance (C3) compensates for this loss of clearance during installation and allows sufficient room for thermal expansion during operation. As this is an open bearing without an integrated seal, the lubricant and housing seal must be selected to suit the operating conditions.
The double-row bearing has an inside diameter of 60 mm, an outside diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm. It is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. As this is an open component, it has no integrated seal and therefore requires a suitably protected bearing housing.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design facilitates mounting on a cylindrical shaft using a clamping sleeve or directly onto a tapered shaft seat. The remaining operating clearance can be adjusted during assembly by sliding the component axially.
The designation C3 indicates increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This clearance is reduced when the tapered inner ring is pressed into place. The initially greater radial clearance compensates for this installation effect as well as for thermal expansion during operation, ensuring that the rolling elements can roll smoothly.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. The upper temperature limit is determined by the polyamide cage (suffix TVH) used to guide the balls. To ensure reliable operation across this entire range, it is important to select a temperature-resistant lubricant for the bearing housing.
Self-aligning ball bearings have two rows of balls and a continuous spherical raceway in the outer ring. Whilst deep-groove ball bearings can become misaligned due to shaft deflection or misalignment, the self-aligning ball bearing dynamically compensates for angular misalignment during operation. The inner ring ball assembly swivels freely within the outer ring, which prevents stress build-up in the bearing system.
The polyamide cage is characterised by its low weight, elastic properties and quiet operation. It guides the balls with low friction. Compared with solid metal cages, the plastic cage reduces inertial forces during start-up and deceleration within the specified temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
