Self-Aligning Ball B. FAG 1209 -K-TVH-C3

The 1209 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager has a 45 mm bore, an 85 mm outer diameter and compensates for misalignment during operation.

The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 1209 -K-TVH-C3 is suitable for bearing locations where shaft deflection or misalignment may occur. Thanks to the common hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring, the rolling bearing automatically self-aligns and compensates for angular misalignment during operation. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, it ensures high dimensional stability. Designed as an open version, the bearing can be integrated directly into the existing lubrication system of the respective assembly.

In which installation situations does the double-row self-aligning ball bearing compensate for shaft misalignment?

Due to its design, this type of bearing is primarily used in applications where elastic shaft deflection or structural misalignment between the bearing housings needs to be compensated for. Thanks to the two rows of balls, the design primarily transmits radial forces, whilst at the same time guiding the shaft in both axial directions. As the bearing is of open design, lubrication with grease or oil is carried out flexibly via the surrounding housing structure.

What are the advantages of the tapered bore and the C3 clearance?

The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 for mounting directly onto a tapered shaft seat or, by means of a collet, onto a cylindrical shaft. As the inner ring expands elastically when pushed on axially, the radial operating clearance is reduced; this is compensated for by the increased C3 bearing clearance. The lightweight TVH polyamide cage dampens dynamic accelerations and is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees.

What are the dimensions of the 1209 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing?

With a bore of 45 mm, an outside diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 19 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. It is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.

What does the suffix ‘K’ mean in the designation of the 1209 self-aligning ball bearing?

K stands for a tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design allows for mounting on tapered shaft seats, as well as installation on smooth cylindrical shafts using a clamping or withdrawal sleeve.

Why does this roller bearing have a clearance rating of C3?

C3 denotes a radial bearing clearance that is slightly greater than that of the standard version. When the tapered inner ring is pressed into place, it expands, so that the increased bearing clearance compensates for the reduction in radial play during assembly.

What are the key features of the TVH polyamide cage?

TVH refers to a polyamide cage that guides the rolling elements. This material is characterised by its low weight and elastic properties, and is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.

How is the open pendulum ball bearing lubricated?

Depending on the application, lubrication is provided by grease or oil via the surrounding housing structure, as the open design has no integrated seals. External seals on the bearing housing protect the lubricant from contamination.

Can a self-aligning ball bearing compensate for misalignment?

Thanks to the continuous spherical raceway in the outer ring, the inner ring and rows of balls can oscillate within permissible angular limits. This prevents edge loading in the event of shaft deflection or misalignment.
