The 1308 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 40 × 90 × 23 mm, compensates for misalignment and is suitable for shafts with a tapered bearing seat.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 1308 -K-TVH-C3 from FAG is designed to accommodate radial forces whilst simultaneously compensating for misalignment or shaft deflection. Thanks to the hollow spherical outer ring raceway, the two rows of balls adjust their angular position during operation. The bearing is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel 100Cr6, features a lightweight polyamide cage and has an open design without seals. The rolling bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees and complies with tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
This self-aligning bearing is particularly suitable for bearing locations where operational deflection of the shaft or misalignment between housings occurs. Installation is recommended for predominantly radial loads where the design requires self-aligning capability. Thanks to its double-row design, the structure distributes the acting forces evenly across both ball races, which promotes low-vibration operation.
The tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 enables a force-fit mounting directly onto tapered shaft journals or using suitable mounting and withdrawal sleeves. The slightly increased radial clearance (C3) provides the necessary leeway to compensate for the inevitable reduction in radial clearance when the inner ring is pressed onto the shaft. Furthermore, the C3 clearance accommodates thermal expansion caused by operating heat. As no seals are integrated, protection against foreign particles and lubricant loss is provided by an external housing design.
The double-row roller bearing has a common hollow-ball raceway in the outer ring, which enables it to automatically compensate for angular misalignment and shaft deflection. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 roller bearing steel, it features a tapered bore and a polyamide cage. With key dimensions of a 40 mm bore, 90 mm outer diameter and 23 mm width, it withstands radial loads in demanding industrial applications.
The tapered bore with a 1:12 taper facilitates fitting onto cylindrical shafts using clamping or withdrawal sleeves, as well as onto tapered bearing seats. When pushed on axially, the inner ring expands in a controlled manner, creating a secure, play-free connection. This method of installation also considerably simplifies subsequent disassembly work during maintenance.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard version. When the inner ring with a tapered bore is pressed into place, the internal bearing clearance is reduced due to elastic expansion. The C3 classification helps to ensure that, after assembly and as the bearing warms up during operation, sufficient clearance remains for smooth, jam-free running.
FAG fits this design, designated TVH, with a polyamide cage. This material reduces the weight of the component and promotes quiet running of the rolling elements. The permissible temperature range for the bearing is between -30 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, the cage retains its mechanical stability and elasticity.
As the bearing is of an open design and has no integrated sealing washers, it is not factory-filled with grease. You must apply an application-specific grease or lubricating oil to the bearing before commissioning. Furthermore, the open design requires an external housing seal to prevent the lubricant from escaping and dirt particles from entering.
The permissible operating range is from -30 to +120 degrees. This range is largely determined by the thermal limit of the polyamide cage. In applications within this range, the bearing retains its dimensional stability. For applications involving continuously higher temperatures, alternative cage designs made of brass or steel should be selected.
