The FAG 2209 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, with its hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, compensates for misalignment with a shaft diameter of 45 mm.
This double-row self-aligning ball bearing, model 2209 -K-TVH-C3, combines radial load-carrying capacity with angular misalignment compensation. With dimensions of a 45 mm bore, 85 mm outer diameter and 23 mm width, the bearing flexibly absorbs radial forces. The version made from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 complies with tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1). An integrated polyamide cage guides the rolling elements with low vibration within the approved temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees.
The bearing is used in applications where shafts flex elastically under operational load or where manufacturing-related misalignments occur between the housing seats. Due to the common hollow-spherical raceway of the outer ring, the inner ring, together with the ball cages, tilts without causing excessive edge stresses. Designs featuring long shafts or separate pedestal housings make specific use of this swivelling behaviour. The open component can be lubricated directly via the surrounding housing system.
The suffix ‘K’ indicates a tapered inner ring bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This tapered shape allows for direct mounting on tapered shaft journals or, using a suitable adapter sleeve, on smooth cylindrical shafts. The interference fit can be adjusted in a controlled manner by axial sliding. The designation C3 indicates an increased radial clearance compared with standard versions. This additional radial clearance helps to prevent the rolling elements from jamming if the inner ring is expanded during press-fitting or if temperature differences occur during operation.
This double-row roller bearing automatically compensates for dynamic and static misalignments between the inner and outer rings. The hollow ball raceway in the outer ring allows for angular adjustment during operation. Fitted with a flexible polyamide cage and manufactured from 100Cr6 steel, this open bearing is suitable for applications involving shaft deflection.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 45 mm, an external diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 23 mm. The internal bore is not cylindrical but tapers at a standardised conical ratio of 1:12 for fitting onto tapered bearing seats or clamping sleeves.
The designation TVH refers to the material used for the rolling element cage. It is a moulded cage made of polyamide. This plastic cage is characterised by its low mass, elasticity and quiet operation within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees.
The C3 suffix indicates a slightly increased radial bearing clearance. When tightened onto the tapered seat, the bearing clearance is reduced due to the elastic expansion of the inner ring. The additional C3 clearance helps to ensure that the bearing does not become stressed after fitting or due to thermal expansion.
As this component does not have any integrated sealing washers, lubricant is supplied externally via the housing. Depending on the requirements, either greases or lubricating oils are used. The open design also allows the bearing to be flushed and the lubricant to be changed regularly during maintenance intervals.
The model meets the dimensional and running accuracy requirements of tolerance class P0, or standard tolerance (PN), also known internationally as ABEC 1. This standard accuracy meets the requirements of typical industrial bearings used in mechanical engineering.
