The FAG 2201 -TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, with its dimensions of 12 × 32 × 14 mm, polyamide cage and C3 clearance, compensates for misalignment caused by shaft deflection.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 2201 -TVH-C3 is an open rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design enables the two rows of balls to automatically compensate for misalignment and shaft deflection during operation. Manufactured to standard tolerance P0 (ABEC 1), this compact bearing is suitable for rotating industrial applications with a cylindrical shaft fit.
It is recommended for use on rotating shafts where misalignment or load-induced deflection occurs. Thanks to the angularly movable inner ring, the design reduces harmful edge stresses which can lead to premature wear in rigid bearings. The open design requires an on-site lubrication supply as well as protection against the ingress of contaminants. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ‘TVH’ denotes a polyamide cage, which ensures low weight and smooth ball movement. The additional designation ‘C3’ stands for a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased radial clearance compensates for thermal expansion caused by temperature differences between the shaft and the housing. At the same time, it helps to ensure that the bearing does not become radially stressed after the inner ring has been pressed onto the 12 mm shaft.
A self-aligning ball bearing of this design has two rows of balls and a continuous spherical raceway in the outer ring. This allows the inner ring, together with the ball set, to pivot angularly without compromising the load-carrying capacity. The combination of a polyamide cage and increased bearing clearance ensures smooth running even in the event of unavoidable shaft misalignment.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 12 mm, an external diameter of 32 mm and a total width of 14 mm. The cylindrical bore fits standardised shaft seats. With these compact dimensions, the component is suitable as a universal replacement bearing in industrial units with cylindrical shafts.
The designation C3 indicates a radial bearing clearance that exceeds the standard dimension (CN). Before installation, the bearing therefore has greater radial clearance. This prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed if tight fits cause the inner ring to expand or if heat build-up during operation leads to thermal expansion.
The cage, marked TVH, is made of polyamide. This material is characterised by its low weight and elasticity, which contribute to the quiet running of the rolling elements. The component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The open bearing has no integrated sealing washers and is not greased at the factory. Depending on the design of the bearing housing, you should lubricate the component externally with grease or lubricating oil. At the same time, external seals must be fitted in the surrounding housing to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt particles.
This roller bearing is manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0 (also referred to as PN), which corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification. This class specifies the permissible dimensional, geometric and running accuracies for shaft and housing seats and meets the standard requirements in general mechanical engineering and equipment manufacture.
