The SKF 1209 ETN9 double-row self-aligning ball bearing, measuring 45x85x19 mm, compensates for misalignment and supports shafts with normal radial clearance.
The 1209 ETN9 self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel with a cylindrical bore. The shared spherical raceway in the outer ring allows the rows of balls to deflect, enabling this component to compensate for misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Maintenance engineers and designers often use this design when elastic shaft deflection occurs or misalignment between bearing seats needs to be compensated for.
This bearing is primarily suitable for designs with long shafts or separate bearing housings, where misalignment is unavoidable due to operational conditions. The design tolerates moderate misalignments without causing additional edge pressures on the rolling elements. In combination with the standard tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, the component meets the typical requirements in general mechanical and plant engineering, where a backlash-free guidance system is not strictly required.
The polyamide material gives the cage a low mass and good damping properties under dynamic accelerations. The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of –30 to +120 degrees, which easily covers standard thermal applications. As this is an open bearing without integrated sealing washers, you are free to select the lubricant to suit the ambient conditions and integrate the bearing location into an external sealing system.
A double-row spherical roller bearing with a continuous spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and the housing. The integrated polyamide cage keeps the rolling elements spaced apart and reduces the weight of the roller bearing.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 19 mm. The inner ring is manufactured with a cylindrical bore as standard. The dimensional accuracy complies with the specifications of tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1.
This combination of suffixes indicates an optimised internal design featuring a polyamide cage. The material is characterised by its elasticity and low moment of inertia. It is recommended for applications with operating temperatures between -30 and +120 degrees.
Open roller bearings offer the advantage that lubricants such as oils or greases can be supplied and replaced directly via the housing. In this design, the surrounding structure provides protection against contamination and moisture via external sealing elements.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance in the initial state, before the bearing is pressed onto the shaft. This standard value is designed so that, following assembly with standard fits, the necessary operating clearance is maintained to enable low-friction rotation.
The outer and inner rings, as well as the balls, are made from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material can withstand high rolling contact stresses. The cage, however, is made from engineering polyamide.
