The FAG 1217 -K-TVH-C3 self-aligning ball bearing, with a bore of 85 mm, an outside diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, automatically compensates for misalignment and shaft deflection.
The double-row self-aligning ball bearing 1217 -K-TVH-C3 is an open rolling bearing made from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6) with a common hollow-spherical raceway in the outer ring. This design accommodates misalignment between the inner and outer rings without noticeably impairing running characteristics. Fitted with a polyamide cage (TVH), the bearing guides the rolling elements with low vibration. The tapered bore allows for precise mounting on tapered shaft seats or in combination with suitable adapter sleeves.
This self-aligning ball bearing is primarily used where shaft deflection or misalignment between bearing locations is to be expected. Typical applications include designs with longer shaft spacings or shafts that are susceptible to bending. As the bearing is open at both ends, it is primarily suitable for installations with an external housing seal and centralised lubrication via grease or lubricating oil.
The tapered internal profile, with a taper ratio of 1:12, facilitates a secure fit on the shaft and allows the operating clearance to be precisely adjusted via the axial displacement. Thanks to the slightly increased radial bearing clearance (C3), the bearing has sufficient residual clearance should thermal expansion occur during operation or the inner ring be elastically expanded during press-fitting. This provides designers and maintenance engineers with a reliable margin for thermally demanding operating conditions within a temperature range of -30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
A double-row self-aligning ball bearing with an 85 mm bore, 150 mm outer diameter and 28 mm width, to Normal tolerance class (P0/PN or ABEC 1). Its hollow-spherical outer ring raceway compensates for misalignment between the inner and outer rings. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, it features a lightweight polyamide cage and a slightly increased C3 bearing clearance.
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a ratio of 1:12. This design is intended for mounting on tapered shaft journals or standard clamping and withdrawal sleeves. By axially adjusting the inner ring, the radial bearing clearance can be precisely set during assembly and adapted to the operating conditions.
C3 denotes a radial bearing clearance that exceeds the normal standard range. This increased bearing clearance prevents the bearing from becoming stressed following radial expansion of the inner ring on the shaft or due to temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. It promotes smooth rotational movement under increased thermal loads.
The designation TVH refers to a polyamide cage. This material is characterised by its low weight, elastic properties and quiet running. The permissible continuous operating temperature range for this cage design is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius.
As an open bearing, the product has no integrated sealing washers. This design minimises internal friction and allows for flexible lubrication with oil or grease via the surrounding bearing housing. However, it requires a clean installation environment or housing seals fitted on site to protect against dirt and moisture.
