The SKF 1217 K self-aligning ball bearing (85x150x28 mm) compensates for misalignment and features a tapered bore for mounting sleeves.
The 1217 K self-aligning ball bearing is a double-row rolling bearing with a hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, manufactured by SKF from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6). With a bore diameter of 85 mm, an outer diameter of 150 mm and a width of 28 mm, this component primarily accommodates radial loads. Thanks to its geometry, the bearing automatically compensates for misalignment between the shaft and housing and is suitable for industrial bearing arrangements.
The 1217 K self-aligning ball bearing is primarily used where shaft deflection or misalignment between the bearing seats occurs. As the outer ring forms a common spherical raceway for both rows of balls, the inner ring and ball set adjust themselves with angular movement during operation. The design covers a temperature range from -30 to +150 degrees.
The version with the suffix ‘K’ has a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. This design allows for direct mounting on tapered shaft seats or for mounting on cylindrical shafts using a shrink sleeve. When slid onto the tapered seat, the standard radial bearing clearance is reduced, allowing the remaining operating clearance to be adjusted during installation. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements, whilst the open design allows for application-specific lubrication.
Two rows of balls on a shared hollow spherical raceway in the outer ring enable automatic compensation for angular misalignment and shaft deflection. The 1217 K self-aligning ball bearing has main dimensions of 85 × 150 × 28 mm and is manufactured to standard tolerances (P0/PN or ABEC 1).
The suffix ‘K’ denotes a tapered bore with a taper ratio of 1:12. Instead of a cylindrical seat, the bearing is mounted either directly onto a tapered shaft or, using adapter sleeves, onto cylindrical shafts. This mounting method makes it easier to fit and remove the bearing during installation and maintenance work.
This model comes with standard radial bearing clearance as standard. When pressed onto a tapered seat or a locking sleeve, the inner ring expands, thereby reducing the radial bearing clearance. The displacement is checked during installation in order to adjust the remaining operating clearance to the desired value.
As an open roller bearing, this design has no factory-fitted seals. Lubrication is supplied via the housing, either with grease or oil, depending on the specific operating conditions. An enclosed housing with external sealing serves to retain the lubricant within the bearing chamber and keep contaminants out.
The permissible temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees. The sheet steel cage and the standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) are designed for this temperature range. When selecting the lubricant, care must be taken to ensure that it is suitable for the prevailing operating temperature.
This roller bearing is fitted with a sheet steel cage. The cage guides the two rows of balls and maintains a uniform distance between the rolling elements. The pressed sheet steel construction is suitable for the entire specified operating temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
