The SKF 23038 CCK/C3W33 spherical roller bearing compensates for misalignment under heavy radial loads and measures 190 x 290 x 75 mm.
The SKF 23038 CCK/C3W33 self-aligning roller bearing handles high radial and axial loads in demanding industrial applications. As an open roller bearing made from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, it is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +200 degrees. A guided sheet steel cage maintains the correct spacing between the roller sets during operation. Thanks to the combination of a tapered bore, a slightly increased radial clearance (C3) and a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring, this bearing unit integrates seamlessly into industrial maintenance and new designs.
This design is primarily used for heavy radial loads where elastic deflection of the shaft or misalignment may occur. The two rows of rollers run on a common hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, enabling the bearing to automatically compensate for misalignment between the shaft and housing. This reduces edge pressures on the rolling elements. The open design also allows for flexible integration into existing lubrication systems with external housing seals.
The tapered bore, with a taper ratio of 1:12, allows mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using clamping or withdrawal sleeves, on smooth shafts. When the bearing is pushed onto the shaft, the bearing clearance is specifically reduced. The increased bearing clearance class C3 helps to ensure that sufficient radial clearance remains even after the bearing has become a tight fit and during temperature-induced expansion whilst the bearing is in operation. In addition, the integrated W33 lubrication groove in the outer ring facilitates relubrication during operation.
The main dimensions are 190 mm bore diameter, 290 mm external diameter and 75 mm width. These dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in suitable housing designs. Before assembly, it is advisable to check the dimensional tolerances of the connecting parts on the shaft and housing.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased operating clearance is selected when tight fits on the shaft and housing cause the inner ring to expand, or when operational temperature differences arise between the inner and outer rings, in order to prevent the rolling elements from seizing.
Bearings marked with the letter ‘K’ have a tapered internal bore with a ratio of 1:12. They are either pressed directly onto a matching tapered shaft seat or fitted using mounting or withdrawal sleeves. The correct fit can be checked by moving the bearing axially and measuring the remaining bearing clearance.
The designation W33 indicates a circumferential lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. Lubricant enters the interior of the bearing directly between the two rows of rollers through these openings. This simplifies regular maintenance and promotes even distribution of lubricant within the rolling zone.
The 23038 CCK/C3W33 model is designed as an open roller bearing without integrated grinding or cover discs. The bearing location therefore requires an external housing seal to protect against dust and moisture. The open design allows for the free selection of a suitable lubricant within the temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
This design combines the standard dimensional accuracy of PN with the enhanced running accuracy of Class P5. The mounting dimensions therefore comply with the usual standard for easy component replacement, whilst the more precise machining of the raceways ensures reduced vibration and smooth concentricity.
