The FAG QJ218 -N2-MPA four-point bearing, measuring 90 × 160 × 30 mm, accommodates high axial forces in both directions whilst saving space.
The QJ218 -N2-MPA four-point bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing of standard tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1). The design features a split inner ring and a robust brass cage. This rolling bearing is particularly suitable for applications where axial forces act in both directions and the axial installation space is insufficient for double-row bearings. The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The roller bearing primarily accommodates alternating axial loads with low radial loading. The component is often combined with a separate radial bearing as a pure axial bearing to provide axial guidance in confined spaces. In axial operation, the balls contact the raceways of the inner and outer rings at two points and transmit axial forces directly. Thanks to its open design without sealing washers, the bearing can be supplied directly with oil or grease via a central circulating lubrication system.
The split inner ring allows the outer ring and ball cage to be mounted separately from the inner ring halves. This makes installation on the shaft and in the housing straightforward. The suffix N2 indicates two retaining grooves on the end face of the outer ring, offset by 180 degrees. These recesses are used to secure the outer ring against rotation in the housing by means of retaining pins, should the bearing be used as a pure thrust bearing with radial clearance.
A single-row angular contact ball bearing with a split inner ring, designed to accommodate axial loads in both directions. With a 90 mm bore, 160 mm outer diameter and 30 mm width, it is suitable for compact bearing arrangements subject to high axial forces. A solid brass cage ensures the rolling elements are guided in a mechanically stable manner during operation.
Two grooves offset by 180 degrees prevent the outer ring from rotating within the housing. When the four-point bearing with radial housing clearance is used exclusively for axial guidance, dowel pins engage with these grooves. This secures the ring in a positive fit in the circumferential direction without impairing its axial function.
This component is manufactured with a standard radial bearing clearance. This standard bearing clearance is suitable for typical installation conditions where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. It ensures balanced guidance of the rolling elements under normal operating conditions.
The two-piece design of the inner ring allows a greater number of rolling elements to be fitted than in one-piece bearings. This increases the axial load capacity. Furthermore, this design simplifies assembly, as you can fit the outer ring with the ball race and the inner ring halves onto the shaft separately.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +150 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the solid brass cage and the metal raceways, the bearing retains its dimensional stability within this temperature range. When selecting a lubricant, ensure that the grease or oil is approved for use at these temperatures.
As the bearing is designed without integrated sealing washers, protection against dust and moisture must be provided by the housing design. Housing seals, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, protect the internal components. In turn, the open design allows for a continuous supply of circulating lubricating oil within the machine housing.
