The SKF 6000/C3 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, with a 10 mm bore, sheet steel cage and increased bearing clearance, ensures smooth running under thermal loads.
The 6000/C3 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) with the main dimensions of a 10 mm bore, 26 mm outer diameter and 8 mm width. Thanks to its SKF Explorer design, as well as its increased dimensional accuracy (P6) and running accuracy (P5), this bearing is suitable for demanding shaft mountings. The design without sealing washers allows for direct lubrication via the housing, whilst the robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with precision.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use this bearing design in compact units where radial forces are the main consideration and moderate axial forces in both directions are supported. Typical applications include compact shaft mountings with an external lubrication circuit. As the bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees, it operates reliably within protected housing designs even when subjected to significant heat build-up during continuous operation.
The suffix C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This additional radial clearance prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed if the inner ring expands more than the outer ring due to shaft heating. Similarly, the C3 bearing clearance compensates for the expansion of the inner ring, which is unavoidable with tight fits on the 10 mm shaft. When fitting open bearings, care must always be taken to ensure a clean installation environment, as there are no sealing washers to protect against dirt.
This roller bearing has an inside diameter of 10 mm, an outside diameter of 26 mm and a total width of 8 mm. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or ring groove. With these standardised dimensions, the bearing fits into compact machine housings and onto corresponding standard shafts.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial bearing clearance than in the standard version. This ensures that the bearing rotates freely even at high operating temperatures or with tight fits. This counteracts any straining of the rolling elements, helps to minimise friction losses and protects the raceways against premature wear.
The open design, which does not feature cover plates or sealing discs, allows direct access for lubricating oils or greases from a central lubrication system. Furthermore, there are no friction losses caused by contact seals, which minimises frictional resistance. This requires an installation space within the respective housing that is protected against foreign bodies and splash water.
The component is manufactured to a dimensional accuracy of Class P6 and a running accuracy of Class P5. These tighter tolerance grades compared with standard bearings result in improved concentricity and reduced dimensional deviations. This reduces vibrations during operation and ensures smooth running at higher speeds.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. The dimensional stability of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the robust sheet steel cage allow operation within this temperature range, provided that the lubricant supplied by the customer is approved for the respective operating temperature.
The inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements are made from standard 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel. This case-hardened chrome steel offers high strength and wear resistance under rolling loads. The integrated cage, which guides the row of balls, is made from pressed sheet steel.
