The SKF 6210 deep groove ball bearing, with main dimensions of 50x90x20 mm, features an open design for a wide range of industrial applications involving predominantly radial loads.
The 6210 deep-groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed primarily to support radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions. SKF manufactures this design as an Explorer variant from through-hardened standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) with a sheet steel cage. The open bearing has no integrated seals, allowing lubricant to reach the raceways and balls unimpeded. With standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1, this size is suitable for a wide range of applications in mechanical engineering and industrial maintenance.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 6210 deep groove ball bearing in rotating assemblies, gearbox stages and general drive shafts. Its open design allows for direct integration into external lubrication circuits using oil or grease. As the design combines radial loads with axial guidance on both sides, the bearing is suitable for uniformly rotating shafts at operating temperatures between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no groove, fits precisely into closed housing bores.
The open design of this bearing does not require abiding sealing lips or cover plates, which reduces the friction torque to a minimum. This facilitates high speeds and minimises additional heat build-up at the bearing location. However, this design requires a clean environment and effective external housing sealing to prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture.
Before installation, it is advisable to check that the mounting dimensions match those of a 50 mm bore, 90 mm outer diameter and 20 mm width. The standard radial bearing clearance is designed for standard fits and helps to maintain the necessary operating clearance at normal operating temperatures.
With an internal diameter of 50 mm for the shaft seat, an external diameter of 90 mm and a width of 20 mm, this design complies with standardised dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in shape and has neither a flange nor a groove. The dimensions are suitable for use in corresponding industrial housings and shaft seats.
Open roller bearings do not come with an integrated grease fill as standard. Lubrication is provided by the relevant unit, for example via oil bath lubrication, circulating oil lubrication or manual greasing during assembly. A sealed housing protects the open raceways against loss of lubricant and the ingress of particles.
This internal radial clearance describes the range of movement between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unloaded. It is intended for applications with standard shaft and housing fits. After press-fitting, sufficient radial clearance remains at moderate operating temperatures to ensure the balls run smoothly.
In the Explorer class, SKF optimises the internal geometry and surface finish of the raceways made from roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The guided sheet-steel cage maintains a uniform spacing between the balls. This material-specific design is intended to reduce friction and support service life under normal operating conditions.
The operating temperature range is specified as -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. Users should ensure that the lubricant used is also approved for the relevant operating temperature.
This designation defines mandatory limit values for dimensional, form and concentricity accuracy in accordance with international standard tolerances. It represents the standard level of precision commonly used in industrial applications. For typical gear stages and drive shafts, this tolerance class reliably meets standard accuracy requirements.
