The SKF 6205 -2Z/C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 25 mm bore, end shields on both sides and C3 clearance, offers reliable operation at high speeds and under high temperatures.
The 6205 -2Z/C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing made from standard rolling-element steel (100Cr6) in SKF’s Explorer series. With dimensions of a 25 mm bore, 52 mm outside diameter and 15 mm width, it is suitable for rotating shafts subject to predominantly radial loads. Thanks to the non-contact cover plates on both sides, the bearing keeps out dirt particles whilst retaining the lubricant within the rolling element chamber. A robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly.
The bearing design primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Manufactured to the Explorer class with dimensional accuracy P6 and running accuracy P5, the rolling bearing runs very smoothly. In applications involving higher speeds, the non-contacting 2Z arrangement produces minimal friction losses, whilst the specified temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees ensures stable running characteristics.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance. This clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for thermal expansion that occurs at higher operating temperatures or with tight press fits on the shaft and housing. If your system generates significant heat or if you are fitting the inner and outer rings with a tight fit, the C3 bearing clearance prevents the rolling elements from seizing. For standard applications without temperature differences, standard clearance is often sufficient; under dynamic heating, C3 ensures smooth running.
With an internal diameter of 25 mm, an external diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm, the bearing complies with standardised mounting dimensions. These dimensions allow for direct installation in standard bearing seats. The cylindrical outer ring has no flange or groove, which facilitates flush mounting in boreholes.
Two cover discs made of profiled sheet steel, fitted on both sides, cover the rolling chamber without coming into contact with it. As they do not rub against the inner ring, the friction torque remains low and the maximum speed high. The discs protect the interior from coarse particles and keep the grease inside the bearing.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +120 degrees. Up to this limit, the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, the sheet steel cage and the lubricant retain their mechanical strength. Higher operating temperatures require special greases or specially heat-treated materials to prevent loss of hardness and changes in microstructure.
Dimensional accuracy to Class P6 is combined here with running accuracy to Class P5. The manufacturing tolerances for radial and axial run-out are therefore tighter than for standard bearings. This reduces vibrations during operation, contributes to quiet running and improves the shaft’s guidance accuracy.
The raceways and rolling elements are made from case-hardened standard roller bearing steel of the 100Cr6 grade. This chromium steel offers high wear resistance against fatigue under alternating point and line loads. The integrated cage is made of deep-drawn sheet steel, which reduces moving mass and promotes the flow of lubricant.
An increased radial clearance (C3) is recommended where there is a temperature difference between the warm inner ring and the cooler housing. Tight mounting fits also cause the inner ring to expand radially. The additional bearing clearance absorbs this dimensional contraction during operation and prevents the rolling elements from becoming jammed between the grooved raceways.
