The 6044-M deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager, measuring 220 x 340 x 56 mm and featuring a brass cage, offers a robust solution for large machinery.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6044 -M is designed to accommodate radial forces as well as axial loads in both directions. With an inner diameter of 220 mm, an outer diameter of 340 mm and a width of 56 mm, this rolling bearing is primarily used in the construction of large machinery and plant. FAG manufactures this version from standard rolling-bearing steel 100Cr6 with standard radial clearance. The open design, without a flange or groove on the outer ring, allows for continuous lubrication via the surrounding system.
Designs featuring large shaft diameters utilise this type primarily under combined radial and axial loads. The bearing is suitable for shafts with a diameter of 220 mm and operates within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees. As the rolling elements and raceways remain unsealed on both sides, the lubricant from the surrounding machine housing circulates unhindered through the interior. This is particularly beneficial for industrial applications involving continuous oil or grease lubrication.
The suffix ‘-M’ denotes the brass cage, which maintains precise spacing between the rolling elements even under demanding conditions. Compared to pressed sheet steel cages, brass offers high dimensional stability under vibrations and acceleration forces. Furthermore, the design complies with the standardised tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1. When designing the bearing mounting, an external seal via the housing must be incorporated to protect the open bearing from contamination and moisture.
The dimensions are 220 mm internal diameter (bore), 340 mm external diameter and 56 mm width. The single-row bearing requires appropriately sized bearing seats on the shaft and in the housing, manufactured to the standard tolerances used in general mechanical engineering.
The designation -M indicates a brass cage for guiding the rolling elements. This material is characterised by high stability under vibration and shock loads. Compared with standard sheet metal cages, brass offers improved dimensional stability under demanding mechanical stresses.
The permissible operating range is from -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Materials made from 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and brass retain their shape within this range. The key to safe operation is selecting a lubricant that is approved for the relevant operating temperature.
The open design allows lubricating oil or grease to flow freely from the surrounding machine housing. This simplifies the supply of lubricant whilst the system is in operation. To protect against dirt and moisture, the housing must be fitted with external sealing elements.
This version features the standard radial bearing clearance without any additional designation. The bearing clearance is designed for typical fit conditions on the shaft and housing, as well as moderate operating temperatures. In the event of extreme temperature differences or tight press fits, a higher bearing clearance class is often selected in the design.
The bearing complies with the standard tolerance class P0 or PN, known internationally as ABEC 1. This standard class specifies the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for the bore, outer diameter and width, and covers typical requirements in industrial mechanical engineering.
