The SKF single-row deep groove ball bearing 16018 (90x140x16 mm) features compact dimensions, dimensional accuracy to P6 and performs reliably at high speeds.
The SKF 16018 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 140 mm and a narrow width of 16 mm. Thanks to its compact cross-sectional geometry, the bearing is particularly suitable for designs with limited radial installation space. A sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly. In the SKF Explorer version, the bearing combines standard radial clearance with increased dimensional accuracy to P6.
This single-row deep-groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Due to its open design without integrated sealing washers, there is no additional friction from seals, which makes it suitable for use at high speeds. Typical applications are found in mechanical and plant engineering for assemblies where an external lubricant supply is provided via an oil bath or a central lubrication system. The permissible temperature range is from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius.
With a dimensional accuracy of class P6, the bearing has tighter tolerances for the bore and outer diameter than the standard ‘Normal’ (PN) class. This facilitates a precise fit on the 90 mm shaft and within the housing, and promotes smooth concentricity. As this deep-groove ball bearing is of an open design, the bearing location requires effective external sealing against dirt particles and moisture. The design with standard radial clearance is suitable for normal operating conditions without extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
The roller bearing has an inside diameter of 90 mm, an outside diameter of 140 mm and a width of 16 mm. Due to its relatively narrow width in relation to its diameter, this type is classified as a particularly narrow-profile deep-groove ball bearing and saves valuable installation space on shafts and in housings.
As an open roller bearing, this design does not feature abiding sealing discs or cover plates. This means there is no additional friction caused by sealing lips, which facilitates high speeds and smooth running. The component must be protected from contamination by the surrounding structure, such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals, and must be supplied with lubricant from an external source.
This classification denotes a rolling bearing with improved dimensional accuracy in terms of bore and outer diameter compared with the standard. Whilst the running accuracy corresponds to the standard tolerance class (PN), the P6 dimensional accuracy contributes to tighter manufacturing tolerances for the bearing seat. This ensures a precise fit on shafts and improves vibration behaviour in demanding assemblies.
The standard radial bearing clearance is suitable for standard applications where conventional shaft and housing fits are used. The internal clearance between the rolling elements and raceways compensates for slight thermal expansion. Provided that no extreme temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation, this bearing design promotes even load distribution and low-friction operation.
The bearing is designed for ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) and the steel sheet cage retain their dimensional stability and strength within this range. When determining lubrication intervals and selecting the lubricant, the specific thermal operating conditions of the overall application should always be taken into account.
The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements along the raceway at a uniform distance from one another. This prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another and reduces internal friction and heat build-up during operation. The material is characterised by its low weight and good strength within a defined temperature range.
