The FAG 6220-N deep-groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing with a ring groove in the outer ring and dimensions of 100 × 180 × 34 mm.
The FAG 6220-N deep groove ball bearing combines defined guidance of rotating shafts with the option of simple axial fixation. The ring groove in the outer ring allows the assembly to be secured in the housing in a space-saving manner. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this single-row bearing primarily accommodates radial forces as well as moderate axial forces. In the open version, the row of rolling elements runs within a sheet steel cage, which maintains a uniform spacing between the rolling elements.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians use this bearing primarily in industrial drives, gearboxes and machinery where precise positioning within the housing is required. The outer ring groove allows the component to be axially secured using a retaining ring, without the need to design complex housing shoulders. As this is an open design, the component is particularly suitable for enclosed assemblies with an existing lubrication system.
The groove on the outer circumference, identified by the suffix -N, is used for space-saving axial retention within the bearing housing. In conjunction with a suitable retaining ring, the groove provides axial retention directly within the housing seat. This saves installation space and simplifies the machining of the adjacent structure. The bearing is designed with standard radial clearance and tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 for common standard fits.
With a bore of 100 mm, an external diameter of 180 mm and a width of 34 mm, this version complies with the specified key dimensions. Before installation, check that the shaft seat and the housing bore correspond to these connection dimensions.
The suffix -N indicates a circumferential groove in the outer ring of the roller bearing. This groove is designed to accommodate a snap ring, which can be used to secure the bearing axially within the housing. This allows the bearing housing to be drilled through in one piece, thereby reducing the number of machining steps required.
Open roller bearings do not have integrated sealing discs. They allow external lubricants, such as gear oil or grease, to flow in unhindered from the housing system. At the same time, no friction is generated during operation due to sealing lips coming into contact. The surrounding housing structure provides the seal against dirt and moisture.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this temperature range. When designing the system, please bear in mind that the selected lubricant should also be suitable for the respective operating temperature.
This version is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance. This standard bearing clearance is suitable for common fit combinations and typical operating conditions where there are no significant temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. For special applications involving significant heating, variants with increased bearing clearance are used instead.
This model is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard by international comparison. It offers the running accuracy and dimensional precision typical of industrial applications. The standard guidelines for standard rolling bearings serve as a guide for the bearing seats on the shaft and housing.
