The SKF 61811 deep groove ball bearing features compact dimensions of 55 × 72 × 9 mm, making it suitable for designs with limited radial installation space.
The SKF 61811 single-row deep groove ball bearing is a radial rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) with a bore of 55 mm, an outside diameter of 72 mm and a narrow width of 9 mm. Thanks to this small cross-section, the bearing is particularly suitable for applications where radial installation space is limited. As an open design without integrated seals, the bearing allows for an unimpeded supply of lubricant within the system.
This bearing is primarily used in designs which, despite a shaft diameter of 55 mm, require a compact housing and a narrow design. The single-row deep groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. As it is an open bearing, it is primarily used in oil- or grease-lubricated housings, where the surrounding machine housing acts as a seal against external particles.
The bearing has a standard radial clearance and complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. As there are no sealing washers to seal the interior, operation requires a suitable external lubricant supply, for example via an oil bath or a centralised lubrication system. The guided sheet steel cage ensures that the rolling elements are evenly spaced. The unit is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius, which covers the thermal requirements of continuous industrial operation.
The 61811 deep-groove ball bearing has an inner diameter of 55 mm, an outer diameter of 72 mm and a width of 9 mm. These dimensions correspond to a narrow cross-section series, which allows for a compact outer housing given a specific shaft diameter. Both the bearing rings and the rolling elements are manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel.
An open deep-groove ball bearing is supplied ex-works without end caps or contact seals. This allows the lubricant to flow freely between the raceways, meaning the bearing is designed for use in oil-lubricated systems. At the same time, the surrounding machine housing must provide protection against dust, moisture and dirt particles to prevent foreign matter from entering the raceway.
The standard radial bearing clearance defines the internal radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This clearance ensures that the bearing rotates freely under normal operating conditions after being pressed onto the shaft and fitted into the housing. This prevents both unacceptable seizing and excessive friction.
This version utilises a sheet steel cage. It guides the balls along the raceway and prevents direct contact between the rolling elements. Sheet steel cages are suitable for standard applications using lubricating oils or greases and are characterised by their compatibility with common lubricants within the permissible temperature range.
The open bearing is designed for a temperature range of -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. Within this temperature range, the standard rolling-bearing steel retains its dimensional stability. A lubricant must be selected for operation whose viscosity and suitability correspond to the respective temperatures of the machine’s operating environment.
The P0 classification (corresponding to PN or ABEC 1) denotes the standardised normal tolerance for rolling bearings. It specifies the permissible dimensional and running tolerances for the bore, outer diameter and radial runout. This tolerance class fully covers most standard requirements in general mechanical engineering, in drive units and in industrial maintenance.
