The SKF NU212 ECJ/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row non-locating bearing with dimensions of 60 × 110 × 22 mm, a sheet steel cage and a slightly increased C3 radial clearance.
As a single-row roller bearing, the NU212 ECJ/C3 can accommodate high radial loads. Thanks to its optimised internal design, this version is suitable for demanding bearing arrangements in mechanical and plant engineering. As a NU-type non-locating bearing, the bearing has two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the flangeless inner ring can be removed from both sides. This enables the component to compensate for axial length changes in the shaft with low friction within the bearing. At the same time, the separable design facilitates the separate installation of both bearing rings.
Design engineers and maintenance personnel primarily use this design where high radial loads occur and axial shaft expansion must be accommodated. As the inner ring has no flanges, this bearing does not accommodate any axial forces. In the bearing arrangement, it functions purely as a non-locating bearing for the radial guidance of the rotating shaft. The open design allows lubrication with lubricating oil or grease within a temperature range of -30 to +150 °C.
The version with bearing clearance class C3 has a larger radial bearing clearance than the standard class. This additional reserve is intended to prevent the rolling elements from becoming jammed if temperature differences arise between the shaft and the housing during operation, or if tight fits are selected. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the cylindrical rollers with low internal friction and is proven to be vibration-resistant. As this is an open design, a suitable seal must be provided around the housing to reduce the ingress of dirt particles and retain the lubricant within the bearing seat.
With a bore of 60 mm, an outer diameter of 110 mm and a width of 22 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions for this size. Before installation, it is advisable to check that the shaft seat and housing bore correspond to these mounting dimensions.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be removed from either side, which simplifies assembly. In practice, this design functions purely as a non-locating bearing, which freely compensates for axial displacement of the shaft within the bearing.
The designation C3 indicates a larger radial clearance compared with the standard version. This is useful if the radial clearance decreases during operation due to the shaft heating up or due to tight fits on the bearing seat. The increased bearing clearance helps to protect the rolling bearing from radial stress and overheating.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +150 °C. As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the actual temperature limit during operation depends largely on the properties of the selected lubricant and on the external housing seals.
The dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0 or PN (comparable to ABEC 1), whilst the running accuracy is manufactured to the tighter tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3. This combination ensures precise concentricity of the cylindrical rollers whilst maintaining standardised fit accuracy for installation in housings and on shafts.
A sheet steel cage (identified by the designation J) maintains a uniform spacing between the rollers. The design is characterised by its low weight and elastic properties. It is suitable for standard operating conditions and varying speeds.
