The SKF NU214 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a separable non-locating bearing (70x125x24 mm) with a polyamide cage, designed for high radial loads in industrial applications.
The NU214 ECP cylindrical roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in the Explorer performance class with a 70 mm bore, 125 mm outer diameter and 24 mm width. Thanks to its optimised internal design, this version can accommodate high radial loads. The integrated polyamide cage ensures quiet and low-friction operation of the rollers. As an open roller bearing, the component can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication circuits. The bearing is suitable for demanding applications in mechanical and plant engineering.
The bearing accommodates high radial loads and compensates for axial length changes in the shaft. The NU design acts purely as a non-locating bearing in this context: two fixed flanges on the outer ring guide the roller set, whilst the flangeless inner ring allows axial displacement in both directions. Typical applications include drive systems and industrial set-ups involving thermal shaft expansion. The permissible temperature range is from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius.
The suffix ECP denotes the combination of a modified inner ring geometry and an elastic polyamide cage. This cage material dampens vibrations under dynamic loads and reduces bearing friction. A clear advantage during assembly is the separability: The inner ring can be removed from both sides, allowing the inner and outer rings to be fitted separately. With standard radial clearance and a precision grade of P6 (ABEC 3) with dimensional tolerances to P0 (ABEC 1), the bearing meets defined precision requirements.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 70 mm, an outside diameter of 125 mm and a width across flats of 24 mm. These dimensions correspond to the NU214 series. Owing to the cylindrical rollers, the design features line contact, enabling it to withstand high radial loads.
In the NU design, the outer ring has two fixed guide flanges, whilst the inner ring has no flanges. This allows the inner ring to be moved axially in both directions and removed completely. This design serves as a floating bearing, which accommodates thermally induced length changes in a rotating shaft without constraint within the bearing.
The letter combination ECP refers to an optimised internal design combined with a polyamide cage. The adapted roller profile minimises edge loads and promotes even force distribution. The polyamide cage used is characterised by its low weight and smooth running properties, which reduce friction and noise during normal operation.
The rolling bearing is designed with a standard radial clearance, which is suitable for typical operating temperatures and standard fit selections. Dimensional accuracy complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. Precise concentricity is ensured by the increased running accuracy in accordance with class P6 or ABEC 3.
As an open-type bearing, this bearing has no integrated grinding or cover discs. Lubrication is provided via the housing system using industrial oil or grease. To protect the raceways from dirt and moisture ingress, external sealing elements such as radial shaft seals must be incorporated into the surrounding housing structure.
The permissible operating range extends from -30 to +120 degrees Celsius. This temperature range is primarily limited by the polyamide cage, which retains its dimensional stability within these limits. When designing the bearing arrangement, maintenance engineers and designers should ensure that the selected lubricant is also specified for this temperature range.
