The NU2238 -E-M1 single-row cylindrical roller bearing from FAG offers high radial load-carrying capacity with main dimensions of 190 × 340 × 92 mm for demanding industrial applications.
The NU2238 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is designed as a single-row radial roller bearing to accommodate high radial loads. Thanks to the cylindrical roller geometry, there is line contact with the raceways. The design as a floating bearing compensates for thermally induced changes in shaft length within the bearing mounting without any constraint. With standard tolerances to P0/PN or ABEC 1 and standard radial clearance, this roller bearing is suitable for standard installation scenarios in mechanical engineering.
Design engineers primarily use this bearing arrangement where high radial forces act on heavy shafts and axial displacement occurs. Typical applications include bearing arrangements subject to purely radial loads and requiring axial compensation. As the outer ring has two fixed flanges, it guides the roller set together with the cage, whilst the flangeless inner ring allows axial relative movements of the shaft unimpeded. This prevents any stress-inducing axial forces from arising in the housing.
The solid brass cage (designation M1) provides the roller set with mechanical stability and performs particularly well under strong vibrations or varying speeds. Brass has favourable emergency running properties and withstands shock loads. Combined with its open design, the roller bearing is rated for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +150 degrees. As the outer ring has neither lubrication grooves nor lubrication holes, grease or lubricating oil is supplied directly via the surrounding housing structure.
The main dimensions are 190 mm internal diameter, 340 mm external diameter and 92 mm width. These standardised dimensions enable a precise fit when mounted on suitable shaft journals and in housing bores in heavy machinery.
This design features a thrust bearing with two fixed flanges on the outer ring and a flangeless inner ring. The inner ring can be removed from either side, which simplifies assembly and allows thermal expansion of the shaft to be accommodated directly within the bearing.
The abbreviation E denotes a reinforced internal design with increased load-bearing capacity. The suffix M1 refers to a solid brass cage which keeps the cylindrical rollers spaced apart, even under demanding vibration conditions.
The component is manufactured with standard radial bearing clearance and to Class P0/PN tolerances (equivalent to ABEC 1). This classification meets the usual precision requirements for standard industrial applications in mechanical engineering.
As the cylindrical roller bearing is designed as an open bearing without an integrated seal, the surrounding structure provides protection. Depending on the application, external housing seals such as shaft seals or labyrinth seals are used to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of contaminants.
The permissible operating temperature range is from -30 to +150 degrees. Both the roller bearing steel and the brass cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. The lubricant must be selected to suit the prevailing operating temperature.
