The SKF 29416 E axial self-aligning roller bearing (80x170x54 mm) accommodates heavy axial loads and reliably compensates for shaft misalignment.
The 29416 E axial self-aligning roller bearing is a single-acting rolling bearing for industrial applications subject to significant axial forces. Thanks to the angular arrangement of the barrel rollers, the design transmits not only dominant axial forces but also superimposed radial forces. The bearing is manufactured by SKF and is designed to the optimised Explorer performance class. With a bore of 80 mm, an outer diameter of 170 mm and a height of 54 mm, this rolling bearing fits into standardised mechanical engineering assemblies.
This rolling bearing absorbs high axial thrust forces on shaft runs whilst simultaneously compensating for elastic deflection or angular misalignment. Typical applications include heavily loaded industrial gearboxes and large machinery with vertical or horizontal shaft alignment. As the raceway of the housing disc is hollow-spherical in shape, the bearing adjusts to angular misalignment. This design prevents edge loading on the rolling elements and reduces stress in the bearing seat.
The integrated sheet steel cage keeps the sets of rollers spaced apart and is unaffected by lubricant additives. In combination with the standard rolling bearing steel 100Cr6, the bearing covers a temperature range from –30 to +200 degrees. The classification under standard tolerance P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) ensures defined fit conditions on the shaft and housing. As an open component, the thrust bearing can be fitted separately; however, it requires a targeted supply of lubricant during operation.
With an internal diameter of 80 mm, an external diameter of 170 mm and a width of 54 mm, the bearing complies with standardised mounting dimensions. These mounting dimensions allow for precise installation on shafts and in bearing housings in mechanical and plant engineering.
As a single-acting component, this design is primarily intended to absorb high axial forces in one direction. Owing to its design, the bearing can also transmit any additional radial forces, provided that a sufficient minimum axial load is acting on the roller set at the same time.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -30 and +200 degrees. The thermal resistance of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage allows for stable operation at elevated temperatures, depending on the lubricant used.
Due to the spherical design of the housing disc’s running surface, the barrel-shaped rollers, together with the shaft disc, swivel out continuously. The design automatically compensates for any misalignment of the shaft relative to the bearing housing, thereby preventing localised edge loads.
P0/PN and ABEC 1 denote the standardised normal tolerance for rolling bearings. The dimensional, form and running tolerances fall within the standardised limits for general mechanical engineering, which simplifies replacement during maintenance work.
The component is fitted with a dimensionally stable sheet steel cage. This keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart, provides stability whilst being lightweight, and is compatible with standard mineral and synthetic lubricants within the operating temperature range.
