The FAG 52316 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed for shafts with a 65 mm bore and reliably accommodates axial forces acting in both directions.
The 52316 axial deep-groove ball bearing is designed to specifically accommodate pure axial loads from both directions. With key dimensions of a 65 mm bore diameter, 140 mm outer diameter and 79 mm overall height, the design provides axial support for components on both sides. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and fitted with a sheet steel cage, this version is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +150 degrees. It is manufactured to standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1.
This bearing is used when rotating shafts need to support axial forces in both axial directions. As axial deep groove ball bearings are not designed to transmit radial loads, radial support is provided separately by suitable radial bearings. Typical applications include bearing arrangements with varying axial load directions. The design serves to position the shaft precisely in the axial direction and counteracts axial displacement under load.
This double-acting design is not angularly adjustable and does not include any additional shims. The contact surfaces on the housing and shaft must therefore be aligned exactly at right angles to the bearing axis to avoid localised edge pressures. Even minor misalignments or tilting place uneven loads on the rolling elements. It is important during assembly to ensure clean, flat surfaces and a carefully adjusted preload so that all rolling elements rest evenly against the raceways.
This roller bearing accommodates axial loads only and distributes them in both axial directions. The design is not suitable for radial forces. In the design, the axial bearing is therefore combined with separate radial bearings, which helps to ensure precise guidance of the shaft.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 65 mm at the shaft flange, an external diameter of 140 mm and a total width of 79 mm. These dimensions comply with the standardised specifications for the double-acting 523 series and allow for direct replacement in existing machine designs.
No, this design is not angle-adjustable and is sensitive to misalignment between the shaft and the housing. As this design does not include spherical washers, the mating parts must be machined to be flat and at right angles to the axis of rotation. Otherwise, misalignment will result in uneven loading and wear of the rolling elements.
The roller bearing is designed for use within a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees. The dimensional stability of the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage is maintained within this range. When designing the bearing, the thermal limits of the lubricant used must always be taken into account.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance meets the usual requirements in general mechanical and plant engineering and contributes to consistent concentricity and dimensionally accurate connections to the housing and shaft.
FAG fits this model with a sheet steel cage. The cage guides the rolling elements along their paths on both sides and retains its shape even under dynamic loads. The design of the sheet steel cage also facilitates the application and distribution of grease or oil within the bearing.
