The FAG 3318 angular contact ball bearing, measuring 90 × 190 × 73 mm, can accommodate high radial loads as well as axial loads on both sides, whilst saving valuable axial installation space.
This double-row angular contact ball bearing 3318 transmits combined loads via two separate rows of balls. Thanks to its open design without integrated lip seals, the rolling bearing is suitable for applications where lubrication is provided by the customer using grease or oil. FAG manufactures the inner and outer rings, as well as the rolling elements, from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6), which ensures excellent dimensional stability under demanding operating conditions.
The bearing is specifically designed to accommodate combined loads consisting of radial forces and axial forces acting on both sides. A double-row design functionally corresponds to two single-row angular contact ball bearings mounted opposite each other in an O-arrangement; however, it requires less axial space on the shaft than a separately assembled bearing set. Furthermore, due to the fixed internal alignment, there is no need to adjust the axial bearing clearance during assembly, which simplifies installation in shaft guides with varying axial loads.
The robust sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements precisely along their raceway and is approved for a temperature range of –20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the standard radial clearance and manufacture to tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the 3318 angular contact ball bearing can be fitted as standard into cylindrical housing bores. The outer ring has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which allows for straightforward axial mounting in smooth bearing seats.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 90 mm, an outer diameter of 190 mm and a total width of 73 mm. The outer ring has a smooth, cylindrical surface with no retaining groove or flange.
Double-row angular contact ball bearings, thanks to their raceways inclined towards one another, can accommodate both high radial forces and axial forces in both directions. They therefore provide a rigid shaft support under varying axial thrust forces.
The open design, which does not feature abiding sealing discs, allows for the direct circulation of lubricating oil or grease from the surrounding unit. Furthermore, the absence of contacting sealing lips reduces internal friction and heat build-up at higher speeds.
The roller bearing operates within a temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The integrated sheet steel cage and the case-hardened 100Cr6 roller bearing steel maintain their dimensional accuracy within this temperature range.
P0 is the standard tolerance class for industrial roller bearings in accordance with DIN and ISO specifications and corresponds to the US designation ABEC 1. It fully covers the standard accuracy requirements of general mechanical engineering with regard to dimensional and running error tolerances.
The bearing features standard radial bearing clearance (normal clearance). This standard design is rated for common fit specifications on shafts and in housings without extreme differences in thermal expansion.
