The single-row tapered roller bearing 32303 from FAG Wälzlager, with dimensions of 17 × 47 × 20.25 mm, can accommodate high radial and single-direction axial loads.
The 32303 tapered roller bearing from FAG Wälzlager is a single-row roller bearing in a standard design for industrial and workshop applications. With a bore of 17 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 20.25 mm, this component is suitable for compact shaft mountings. Thanks to the tapered arrangement of the rollers, the bearing simultaneously transmits radial loads and axial forces from one direction. Manufactured to tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, it ensures precise concentricity.
The 32303 tapered roller bearing is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements where high radial forces coincide with axial forces acting in one direction. Typical applications can be found in general mechanical engineering on rotating shafts. As single-row tapered roller bearings can only accommodate axial forces from one side, they are usually arranged in pairs in a mirror-image configuration in designs. This method enables play-free guidance of rotating shafts under various load conditions.
This complete tapered roller bearing is fitted with a sheet steel cage, which guides the tapered rolling elements and maintains a constant spacing between them. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +120 degrees Celsius, allowing for use under varying thermal environmental conditions. When designing the bearing, it is advisable to select a lubricant suitable for this temperature range. Furthermore, the bearing can be disassembled: the inner ring with the set of rollers and the outer ring can be fitted separately, which facilitates installation in housings and onto shafts.
With a bore of 17 mm, an outside diameter of 47 mm and a total width of 20.25 mm, the bearing has standardised metric dimensions. These dimensions determine the mounting conditions on the shaft and in the housing seat, and define the mounting dimensions of the bearing assembly.
Due to its design, this single-row roller bearing simultaneously accommodates high radial forces and axial forces from one direction. The angularly arranged tapered rollers transfer the resulting loads directly into the raceways. To support axial forces from both directions, a second tapered roller bearing is fitted in the opposite direction and aligned accordingly.
The designation P0 corresponds to class ABEC 1 and describes the standard tolerance for dimensional and running accuracy of rolling bearings. Components in this accuracy class meet the majority of industrial requirements and ensure consistent concentricity in standard fit designs within mechanical engineering.
The specified operating temperature range is between -30 and +120 degrees Celsius. Within these limits, the rings retain their dimensional stability and the steel cage continues to function correctly. When commissioning the system, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant is suitable for these thermal conditions.
Tapered roller bearings are not designed to be self-retaining, meaning that the outer ring can be separated from the inner ring and the roller cage. This greatly simplifies sequential installation: you can press the outer ring and inner ring into the housing or slide them onto the shaft independently of one another, and then join them together.
The sheet steel cage maintains a uniform distance between the tapered rollers and guides them parallel to the bearing axis. This prevents the rollers from coming into direct contact with one another, reduces internal friction and promotes an even load distribution across the entire raceway during operation.
