The FAG 32236 tapered roller bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with an 180 mm bore, designed to withstand high radial and single-direction axial loads.
The FAG 32236 tapered roller bearing is a single-row roller bearing in standard design, designed to withstand high radial and single-direction axial loads. With key dimensions of a 180 mm bore, 320 mm outside diameter and 91 mm width, the unit is suitable for demanding industrial applications. The integrated sheet steel cage guides the tapered rollers precisely along the raceways. Thanks to its open design without a seal, you can integrate the bearing into the plant’s existing lubrication systems.
Due to the line contact between the tapered rollers and the raceways, this bearing can withstand high forces. In industrial gearboxes and powertrains, such bearings are often mounted in pairs facing each other to enable axial guidance in both directions. The interaction between the inner ring, roller set and flangeless outer ring allows for separate assembly. This simplifies installation in large gearboxes and shaft bearings with tight-tolerance fits.
The fitted sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements even under dynamic operating conditions and vibrations. It covers the specified operating temperature range from –30 to +120 degrees without causing any thermal restrictions. In combination with the standard tolerance P0 or ABEC 1, you benefit from standardised dimensional and concentricity accuracies. Before commissioning, it is advisable to select a suitable lubricant and external housing seal, as the component is supplied with an open design from the factory.
The main dimensions of this bearing are 180 mm internal diameter (bore), 320 mm external diameter and a total width of 91 mm. These standardised dimensions enable a precise fit when replacing bearings in existing machine designs. The complete bearing consists of the inner ring with a guided set of rollers and the separate outer ring.
Due to its design, the single-row bearing transmits high radial forces and, at the same time, axial forces from one direction. The tapered rollers dissipate the forces at an angle to the bearing axis. To provide axial guidance on both sides, maintenance engineers usually fit a second tapered roller bearing in a mirror-image O or X arrangement on the shaft.
Open tapered roller bearings are lubricated directly via the oil circuit or the lubricant chamber of the machine housing. External housing seals, such as shaft seals, protect the bearing from contamination and moisture. The open design also allows for targeted lubricant circulation and facilitates visual inspection of the raceways during maintenance work.
The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. This wide operating range covers typical thermal loads in industrial gearboxes and production plant. The sheet steel cage retains its dimensional stability within this temperature range, meaning that the operating limits depend primarily on the thermal stability of the selected lubricant.
This designation defines the standard accuracy for dimensional, form and runout deviations in accordance with international standards. P0 (also referred to as standard tolerance PN) corresponds to the ABEC 1 classification in the US system. It meets the requirements of most industrial machinery and offers reliable interchangeability at a cost-effective price.
With this type of bearing, the bearing clearance is not fixed in advance but is adjusted during installation by axially positioning the bearing against a counter-bearing. Using shims, shaft nuts or threaded caps, the fitter can precisely set the required operating clearance or a defined preload.
