The SKF 23224 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing (120x215x76 mm) withstands high radial loads and compensates for misalignment via its spherical rollers.
The SKF 23224 CCK/W33 self-aligning roller bearing is a rolling bearing designed for demanding industrial applications involving combined loads. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 bearing steel, the Explorer version offers enhanced performance in a compact design. Two symmetrical rows of rollers and the hollow-spherical outer ring raceway enable self-alignment during operation. The open bearing is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from –30 to +200 degrees Celsius and can be flexibly integrated into existing lubrication systems.
This self-aligning roller bearing is primarily suitable for designs subject to high radial forces where operational shaft deflection or misalignment must be compensated for. Typical operating conditions include mechanical bearing arrangements subject to alternating shock loads or shaft misalignment. Thanks to its PN dimensional accuracy and increased running accuracy in accordance with tolerance class P5, the bearing ensures smooth, low-vibration operation. The open design requires a suitable housing concept with external sealing to protect against contamination and moisture.
The tapered internal bore with a taper ratio of 1:12 facilitates mounting on a mounting or withdrawal sleeve, as well as directly onto a tapered shaft seat. This allows the standard radial bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted during press-fitting. The designation W33 denotes an annular lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This feature directs grease or lubricating oil directly between the rows of rollers, which aids targeted relubrication and helps to maintain the contact surfaces.
The letter combination describes the internal structure and design features. The designation CC stands for two window-shaped sheet steel cages, an inner ring without a guide flange, and a centred guide ring. The letter K denotes the tapered bore with a 1:12 taper. The abbreviation W33 indicates a lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring.
With a bore diameter of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 215 mm and a total width of 76 mm, this series is compact in design. It features a standard radial bearing clearance and operates with PN dimensional accuracy and the enhanced running accuracy of class P5.
The tapered bore requires fitting onto a suitable clamping or withdrawal sleeve, or onto a conically machined shaft journal. Axial displacement of the inner ring causes it to expand, allowing the operating clearance to be precisely adjusted. This is usually checked by measuring the remaining bearing clearance.
As this component is supplied without integrated sealing washers, it requires lubrication via the surrounding bearing housing. The integrated lubrication groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring allows for the direct supply of grease or lubricating oil. The lubricant selected must be suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees.
SKF fits this design with a robust sheet-steel cage. The separate pockets guide the spherical roller elements precisely and keep friction losses to a minimum. Sheet-steel cages are suitable for a wide range of temperatures and are resistant to common mineral and synthetic lubricants.
