The SKF 22209 EK self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high radial loads with a 45 mm bore and automatically compensates for misalignment during operation.
The SKF 22209 EK double-row self-aligning roller bearing accommodates high radial forces and automatically compensates for angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings. As an open roller bearing made from 100Cr6 bearing steel, the design covers a temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. A sheet steel cage guides the barrel rollers precisely along the raceways. The Explorer version combines standard dimensional accuracy (PN) with the increased running accuracy of tolerance class P5.
The 22209 EK self-aligning roller bearing is designed for bearing arrangements subject to predominantly radial loads and shaft deflection. Thanks to the shared hollow-spherical outer ring raceway, the roller set continuously adjusts to angular misalignment without generating additional edge pressures. The lubrication groove integrated into the outer ring, with radial lubrication holes, directs the lubricant directly into the working area of the two rows of rollers.
The tapered bore with a standard taper ratio of 1:12 allows for mounting on tapered shaft seats or, using a shrink sleeve, on cylindrical shafts. When the inner ring is driven on axially, it expands in a controlled manner, allowing the remaining radial bearing clearance to be precisely adjusted. As this is an open bearing, sealing is provided by the surrounding bearing housing, supplemented by application-specific grease or oil lubrication.
The bearing is designed with a bore diameter of 45 millimetres at the reference plane, an outside diameter of 85 millimetres and a width of 23 millimetres. The manufacturing dimensions comply with the standard tolerance class PN, whilst the concentricity is specified to class P5.
The suffix ‘E’ denotes the bearing’s standard internal design, whilst ‘K’ indicates the tapered bore with a pitch ratio of 1:12. This tapered design is intended for specific mounting on tapered shaft seats or using adapter sleeves.
Fresh lubricant is fed directly between the rows of rollers via a circumferential groove with lubrication holes in the outer ring. This design feature simplifies regular relubrication within the housing, allowing lubricant to be applied without dismantling the components.
Without integrated sealing washers, this open design is intended for housing installations where external sealing elements provide protection against foreign matter. The open design allows for flexible lubricant flow and supports operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees Celsius.
This bearing is supplied with standard radial clearance. When it is slid onto the tapered seat, this radial clearance is reduced in a controlled manner; for this reason, the remaining clearance is usually monitored using feeler gauges during installation.
