The SKF 6407 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 35x100x25 mm, provides a robust bearing solution for combined radial and axial forces in mechanical engineering.
The 6407 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing in tolerance class P0/PN, manufactured from standard rolling bearing steel (100Cr6). As an open variant, this bearing does not require integrated sealing rings, which minimises frictional resistance and allows for direct lubrication via an oil or grease supply provided by the customer. With an outer ring diameter of 100 mm and a 35 mm bore, the design accommodates radial loads as well as axial forces in both directions.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6407 is primarily used in shaft mountings subject to combined radial and axial forces, where clean lubrication conditions prevail. As the rolling bearing is of an open design, operation requires a protected housing that retains the lubricant and keeps out contaminants. Within a temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the bearing is designed for continuous industrial operation, provided that a suitable lubricant is supplied.
The integrated sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly within the deep raceway. The bearing has standard radial clearance and offers standard precision in accordance with ABEC 1, which facilitates installation on cylindrical shafts. The outer ring is designed without a groove or flange, which requires a smooth cylindrical housing seat. For applications with external housing seals, this open model provides a low-friction solution.
The bearing has an internal bore of 35 mm, an external diameter of 100 mm and a width of 25 mm. These dimensions provide a high radial load capacity whilst maintaining a compact shaft diameter, making it suitable for the relevant installation locations.
The open design does not require any ablative cover or sealing discs, thereby keeping friction losses and heat generation to a minimum. This variant is designed for installation in enclosed housings in which the lubricant is delivered directly to the rolling elements, for example via an oil bath or a centralised lubrication system.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the factory-set radial clearance as supplied, without any increase or reduction in operating clearance. This specification ensures that, once pressed onto the shaft and during normal operation, the rolling elements can move freely without being jammed by thermal expansion during operation.
This deep-groove ball bearing is specified for an operating temperature range of between -20 and +120 degrees. The roller bearing steel and sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability within this range. To ensure trouble-free operation, the grease or lubricating oil used must also be approved for the operating temperatures encountered.
The designation ‘Tolerance Class P0/PN’ or ‘ABEC 1’ defines the standard tolerance class for industrial roller bearings. It covers the typical requirements of general mechanical engineering in terms of dimensional accuracy, concentricity and axial run-out, and allows for mounting on correspondingly machined shafts and housing bores.
The sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and prevents the rolling elements from coming into contact with one another during operation. The sheet metal is characterised by its dimensional stability and low weight, and is resistant to both mineral oil-based and synthetic industrial lubricants.
