The FAG 6405 deep-groove ball bearing is an open rolling bearing measuring 25 × 80 × 21 mm, designed for radial and axial loads.
The single-row deep groove ball bearing 6405 from FAG is designed as a versatile rolling bearing for demanding rotational movements. As it is manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the component offers high dimensional stability in industrial applications. With a bore of 25 mm, an outer diameter of 80 mm and a width of 21 mm, it primarily absorbs radial forces. The raceway geometry also supports moderate axial forces in both directions.
This radial ball bearing is suitable for bearing arrangements with rotating shafts where radial loads and combined axial loads are the primary forces. The bearing is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -30 to +120 degrees. Design engineers prefer to use the 6405 series design where a relatively large outer ring of 80 mm is required in relation to the shaft diameter of 25 mm. This dimensioning enables a robust load-carrying capacity with a compact shaft seat.
As an open bearing, the product has no integrated sealing washers. The component is lubricated via the surrounding machine housing, either with oil or grease. The guided sheet steel cage maintains the rolling elements at a uniform distance and reduces internal friction during rotation. Thanks to the standard radial bearing clearance and the standard tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), the unit is suitable for standard fit conditions without extreme thermal expansion. Before installation, check that the customer-supplied housing seal prevents the ingress of foreign particles.
With an internal diameter of 25 mm, an external diameter of 80 mm and a total width of 21 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised main dimensions. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no flange or ring groove. These dimensions allow for a precise fit when installed in housing bores and on corresponding shaft seats.
Open roller bearings do not come with manufacturer-fitted seals or cover plates. Lubricants therefore reach the raceways directly, which is why this bearing is suitable for oil-lubricated systems or housings with external seals. Ensure the installation environment is clean to prevent dust or moisture from entering the bearing.
The classification as ‘standard radial bearing clearance’ means that the radial clearance, when the bearing is not fitted, complies with standard specifications. This design is suitable for standard fits and normal operating temperatures. It prevents both excessive play and excessive preload caused by standard fit allowances in the shaft or housing.
The permissible temperature range is from -30 to +120 degrees. The combination of dimensionally stable 100Cr6 roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage is designed for this temperature range. When selecting a lubricant, please bear in mind that the grease or oil used must also be specified for the specific operating temperatures.
The cage, made of pressed sheet steel, guides the rolling elements along the raceway and prevents direct contact between adjacent balls. This design is characterised by its low weight and unobstructed access for lubricant. Furthermore, the material is resistant to common mineral and synthetic industrial oils.
This designation refers to the standard tolerance class for rolling bearings in terms of dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. Bearings in this class cover the majority of general applications in mechanical engineering and maintenance. They can be easily fitted onto shafts manufactured to standard specifications and into corresponding housing bores.
