At a glance: SKF 6305 single-row deep-groove ball bearing, dimensions 25x62x17 mm, open design for direct lubrication and high speeds.
The 6305 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile rolling bearing made from standard bearing steel (100Cr6) in the SKF Explorer design. With a bore of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 62 mm and a width of 17 mm, the unit accommodates both radial and axial loads in both directions. As an open variant without integrated sealing washers, this bearing allows direct access of oil or grease from the machine housing. The dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements reliably, even at varying speeds.
This rolling bearing is primarily used in units where a central lubrication circuit or housing lubrication is in place. Its use is recommended in protected installation spaces with external sealing. As it does not use ablative seals, the bearing operates with low rotational resistance, which keeps heat build-up to a minimum. The material is designed for operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. The Explorer version supports uniform power transmission during continuous industrial operation.
The P0/PN manufacturing tolerance class (corresponding to ABEC 1), combined with standard radial clearance, provides optimised running characteristics for standard installation situations. The existing bearing clearance compensates for minor thermal expansion without compromising shaft guidance. As the unit is of open design, external housing seals provide protection against foreign particles and lubricant loss. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no flange or groove, can be fitted directly into cylindrical mounting bores.
The bearing has an internal bore of 25 mm, an external diameter of 62 mm and a width of 17 mm. Thanks to its cylindrical external surface without a groove, the component can be fitted precisely onto shafts and into housing bores in mechanical and plant engineering.
Open designs do not have integrated cover plates or sealing discs. This allows circulating lubricating oil or externally applied grease to reach the rolling elements directly. Furthermore, there is no friction caused by rubbing seal lips, which reduces frictional heat and facilitates higher maximum speeds within the protected installation space.
Standard bearing clearance refers to the factory-specified radial clearance between the rolling elements and raceways when the bearing is unmounted. This standard value is designed for common fits and moderate temperature differences between the shaft and housing, to ensure smooth, friction-free operation under rated conditions.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage are designed for this range. The actual operating limit is always determined by the temperature resistance of the lubricant used in the unit.
The sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a uniform distance apart and reduces friction between the rolling elements. The material is characterised by its low weight, dimensional stability and resistance to standard mineral and synthetic lubricants.
This class defines the standard tolerances for dimensional accuracy and concentricity in accordance with international standards. It is sufficient for the vast majority of industrial drives and machines and allows for trouble-free installation on standard-machined shaft and housing seats.
