The SKF 6303 deep groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing measuring 17 × 47 × 14 mm, designed for radial and axial loads.
As a single-row rolling bearing, the 6303 deep groove ball bearing is one of the tried-and-tested bearing types in mechanical engineering. This SKF design in the Explorer performance class is made from standard rolling-element bearing steel (100Cr6) and features a sheet steel cage. The open design has no integrated sealing washers. This makes it suitable for applications where external sealing is provided or where lubrication is supplied directly via an existing lubrication circuit.
This deep-groove ball bearing primarily accommodates radial loads whilst also supporting moderate axial loads in both directions. Typical applications include rotating shafts in general mechanical engineering. Thanks to its open design, lubricating oil or grease can reach the raceways and rolling elements unhindered, which aids heat dissipation under appropriate operating conditions.
As this model is designed as an open bearing, the bearing housing requires protection against contamination and moisture during operation. The permissible temperature range is between –20 and +120 degrees Celsius. The standard radial bearing clearance provides an optimised operating clearance under standard operating conditions. With tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1 and an outer ring without a flange or groove, the unit can be fitted into suitable housing bores.
The bearing has an inner diameter of 17 mm, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 14 mm. The outer ring has neither a groove nor a flange, which means it can be fitted into suitable housing bores.
An open bearing is supplied ex works without either cover plates or sealing washers. The rolling elements and raceways are exposed. Lubricants such as oil or grease can circulate freely. An external housing seal must be fitted to protect against dirt particles and to prevent lubricant leakage.
The standard radial bearing clearance refers to the standard radial clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways when the bearing is unloaded. This rating is designed for normal operating conditions and typical temperature conditions between the shaft and the housing.
The bearing rings and rolling elements are made of standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). The rolling elements are guided by a sheet steel cage, which ensures that the balls are evenly distributed within the bearing.
The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. To ensure trouble-free operation, the lubricant used must be selected to suit the specific operating temperature of the bearing location.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0, which corresponds to class PN or ABEC 1. This design meets the standard requirements for dimensional, geometric and running accuracy in mechanical engineering.
