The SKF 6226 deep groove ball bearing, with dimensions of 130 × 230 × 40 mm, features an open design for industrial applications involving combined radial and axial loads.
The 6226 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing with standard geometry, manufactured from standard rolling-bearing steel (100Cr6). Fitted with a sheet steel cage, this bearing guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway. As this is an open design without integrated sealing washers, the lubricant can circulate freely within the housing. For designers and maintenance engineers, this size series – with an inner diameter of 130 mm and an outer diameter of 230 mm – is suitable for heavy-duty shaft bearings.
The 6226 deep-groove ball bearing primarily absorbs radial forces, but also transmits axial loads in both directions thanks to its deep raceways. It is typically used in shaft bearings with a diameter of 130 mm that perform both radial and axial guidance functions. Thanks to its permissible temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees, the bearing remains functional within these thermal limits. A clean housing environment is essential, as the open design offers no internal barrier against dirt particles.
When selecting the 6226 bearing, the fact that it is designed without seals plays a key role. The component requires external sealing via the machine housing, as well as appropriate lubrication with grease or oil. This model features standard radial bearing clearance, which ensures low-vibration operation with standard fits and moderate operating temperatures. With tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1, the product meets current industry requirements for dimensional and running accuracy.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 130 mm, an outside diameter of 230 mm and a width of 40 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has no flange or ring groove. These dimensions allow it to be fitted onto suitable shafts and into matching housing bores.
The open design does not require integrated cover or sealing discs, meaning that the rolling elements and the sheet steel cage remain freely accessible. This design facilitates the flow of lubricant in oil-circulation lubrication or centralised grease supply systems. However, it requires effective sealing of the housing against the outside environment to prevent the ingress of moisture or foreign particles.
This roller bearing is manufactured with standard radial clearance. This design is intended for applications where standard fit conditions apply between the shaft and housing, and where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. The operating clearance adjusts to the correct level once the bearing is fitted.
The permissible temperature range is between -20 and +120 degrees Celsius. Both the rings and rolling elements, made from standard roller bearing steel, and the integrated sheet steel cage are designed for these thermal conditions. To ensure correct operation, the selected lubricant must also be specified for the respective operating temperature within these limits.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0 or ABEC 1. This classification defines the permissible dimensional, geometric and running deviations for industrial applications. It meets the standard requirements in general mechanical and plant engineering, provided that no specific high-precision requirements regarding concentricity are imposed.
The sheet steel cage separates the rolling elements, which are arranged in a single row, and maintains a uniform distance between them. This prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another, reduces friction and promotes even load distribution across the raceway at moderate speeds and standard operating temperatures.
