The SKF 6207 deep-groove ball bearing is an open, single-row rolling bearing measuring 35x72x17 mm, designed for radial and axial loads.
The SKF Explorer performance class version is made from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6) for the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements. As an unsealed bearing with a sheet steel cage, this component is designed for applications where an external lubricant supply or a sealed oil bath is provided. The outer ring has no flange or groove, allowing the bearing to be fitted into through cylindrical housing bores.
As a single-row bearing, the 6207 deep-groove ball bearing accommodates radial forces as well as axial forces in both directions. The open design, which does not feature abiding seals, enables low-friction operation at high speeds; however, it requires a clean installation environment and a continuous supply of oil or grease. Thanks to the unobstructed flow of lubricant, the roller bearing is suitable for enclosed assemblies with circulating lubrication.
The component is manufactured to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1 and has standard radial bearing clearance. This clearance compensates for operational thermal expansion of the bearing rings as well as fit-related effects during shaft and housing assembly. The permissible operating temperature range extends from –20 to +120 degrees Celsius. As there are no integrated seals, protection against the ingress of solid particles must be provided by the surrounding housing structure.
With an internal diameter of 35 mm, an external diameter of 72 mm and a width of 17 mm, the component complies with standardised dimensions. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no groove or flange, allows for easy installation in precision-machined housing bores.
Without integrated sealing washers, the open design offers minimal rotational resistance, as there are no abrating sealing lips. Lubricants can reach the contact zones unhindered. To protect against dirt and moisture, the surrounding housing structure must be sealed externally.
Defined as normal radial clearance, this range refers to the internal dimension between the raceways and balls when the bearing is not fitted. It compensates for fit constrictions during press-fitting and for thermal expansion during operation, in order to prevent stress build-up within the bearing housing.
The component is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -20 to +120 degrees Celsius. This range covers the material behaviour of 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel and the sheet steel cage. Any lubricating oils or greases used must be suitable for these temperature limits.
The sheet steel cage keeps the balls at a defined distance apart to ensure even load distribution and prevent the rolling elements from rubbing against one another. The material is resistant to standard lubricants and is suitable for use across the entire temperature range up to +120 degrees Celsius.
SKF Explorer stands for refined manufacturing with optimised surface finish and tailored contact geometry on raceways and rolling elements. These design adjustments contribute to an even distribution of stress and help to reduce friction when the lubricant supply is adequate.
