The FAG 6024 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 120 × 180 × 28 mm, accommodates both radial and axial loads in open industrial applications.
The 6024 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row radial ball bearing with a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a width of 28 mm. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6, this design is intended to accommodate both radial and axial forces. The manufacturer, FAG, produces this model in tolerance class P0/PN (corresponding to ABEC 1) and fits it with a robust sheet steel cage. As an open bearing, it is suitable for lubricated installations in mechanical and plant engineering.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 6024 deep groove ball bearing in assemblies lubricated with oil or external grease. Typical applications include industrial drives, shaft mountings and enclosed housings in mechanical engineering. As the bearing remains open at both ends, the lubricant circulates freely between the raceways and rolling elements. This aids heat dissipation under demanding operating conditions. With a permissible temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees, the component is designed for thermally demanding industrial environments.
Environmental sealing plays a key role in the design of the bearing installation. As the 6024 deep-groove ball bearing is not fitted with integrated cover or sealing washers as standard, housing seals must prevent the ingress of dirt and moisture. The built-in sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements whilst being lightweight and keeps friction to a minimum. Together with the standard radial bearing clearance, this variant is suitable for standard applications with defined shaft fits, where there are no extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings.
With a bore of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 180 mm and a total width of 28 mm, the bearing complies with standard dimensions. These dimensions facilitate direct replacement during repairs and enable a precise fit on suitable shafts and in prepared bearing housings.
Designed without factory-fitted sealing washers, this construction allows free lubricant flow in enclosed housing systems. This enables the rolling bearing to be lubricated flexibly via oil circulation systems or grease chambers. At the same time, there is no frictional resistance caused by sealing lips coming into contact, which has a positive effect on running characteristics.
The permissible operating range is between -20 and +150 degrees. The combination of dimensionally stable 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retains its geometric dimensional stability within this range. For continuous operation, the selected lubricant must be suitable for this temperature range.
With normal radial bearing clearance, the component has the standard clearance between the inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements as specified by the manufacturer. This design is intended for typical fit combinations and operating temperatures without significant thermal expansion, ensuring that the bearing neither seizes nor exhibits excessive clearance during operation.
Thanks to the precise guidance of the rolling elements, the sheet steel cage maintains a uniform ball spacing and prevents the balls from coming into contact with one another within the raceway. The material is characterised by its strength combined with low weight. Furthermore, sheet steel is resistant to standard mineral- or synthetic-oil-based lubricants up to a temperature of +150 degrees.
Manufactured to the standard tolerance class P0/PN (equivalent to ABEC 1), the bearing meets defined specifications regarding dimensional, geometric and running accuracy. This accuracy class reliably meets the requirements for bore, outer diameter and axial runout in the vast majority of industrial applications.
