The 4204-atn9 deep-groove ball bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings is an open, double-row bearing with a polyamide cage, an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 18 mm.
The 4204-atn9 deep groove ball bearing serves as a compact bearing unit designed to accommodate both radial and axial forces in both directions. As a double-row roller bearing, this component can withstand higher loads than single-row versions of comparable dimensions, even in confined spaces. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel with a cylindrical bore, the bearing is suitable for industrial applications within a temperature range of -20 to +120 °C.
Design engineers prefer to use double-row deep-groove ball bearings in shaft mountings where single-row versions reach their load-carrying capacity limits. Typical applications include compact installations with increased radial and axial load requirements acting on both sides. As this is an open bearing without sealing washers, its use requires an external housing seal as well as a targeted supply of lubricant – either oil or grease – from the surrounding system.
The integrated polyamide cage guides the balls in both rows with low friction and promotes smooth running of the rolling bearing. Compared with solid metal cages, the lightweight material reduces the weight of the rotating components and dampens vibrations occurring during operation. In conjunction with the standard radial bearing clearance, this design enables reliable operating clearance under normal installation and temperature conditions of up to +120 °C.
This SKF rolling bearing component features two rows of balls in a single ring assembly. The double-row design increases the load-carrying capacity compared with single-row bearings of similar dimensions. A lightweight polyamide cage guides the balls with low friction within a temperature range of -20 to +120 °C.
The roller bearing has an outer diameter of 47 mm and a width of 18 mm. The inner ring has a cylindrical bore, which allows it to be fitted directly onto smooth shafts or axles with the appropriate tolerance.
Open bearings have neither cover plates nor sealing rings, allowing the lubricant to circulate freely through the interior of the bearing. This design is intended for enclosed systems such as oil-lubricated gearbox housings, where external housing seals protect the bearing from dust and moisture.
Standard radial bearing clearance refers to the standardised clearance between the balls and raceways prior to installation. It is designed for standard fits and moderate operating temperatures, so that during operation the bearing runs without play or with a slight preload.
The permissible operating temperature ranges from -20 to +120 °C. This range is largely determined by the material of the polyamide cage. Exceeding the maximum limit of +120 °C will impair the strength of the plastic cage.
