The FAG 6234 -M-C3 deep-groove ball bearing, with a 170 mm bore, brass cage and increased bearing clearance, offers a high level of operational reliability under thermal loads.
The FAG 6234 -M-C3 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing for industrial applications involving high radial forces and moderate axial forces. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, this version has a bore of 170 mm, an outer diameter of 310 mm and a width of 52 mm. As an open bearing, the component can be integrated directly into a customer-supplied lubrication system. Its P0 tolerance class ensures smooth running in accordance with current industry standards.
Design engineers and maintenance technicians primarily use the 6234 -M-C3 deep groove ball bearing in heavy-duty industrial drives, industrial gearboxes and large machinery. Thanks to its open design, the bearing can be operated in oil- or grease-lubricated housings. The solid brass cage guides the rolling elements precisely, even in the presence of vibrations or fluctuating accelerations. Furthermore, the rolling bearing operates within a temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for use in high-temperature environments.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased radial clearance compared with the standard version. This increased clearance between the balls and raceways compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft and housing during operation. At the same time, the solid brass cage ensures high mechanical stability under demanding lubrication conditions. As the open design has no integrated sealing protection, sealing is provided by the surrounding housing structure.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 170 mm, an outside diameter of 310 mm and a width of 52 mm. These main dimensions conform to standardised size series for single-row radial roller bearings. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a groove nor a flange.
M denotes a solid brass cage which guides the rolling elements under dynamic loads. The suffix C3 indicates a radial clearance greater than that specified in the standard. This feature reduces the risk of the rolling elements becoming jammed if the inner and outer rings heat up to different degrees during operation.
The specified temperature range is from -30 to +200 degrees Celsius. This suitability is due to the roller bearing steel and the heat-resistant brass cage. In the case of open bearings, it is important to ensure that the lubricant used can also withstand the operating temperatures encountered.
As this roller bearing is supplied without factory-fitted sealing washers, it does not come pre-lubricated. You can either connect the bearing to a centralised oil circulation lubrication system or fill it with an application-specific grease. An external housing seal is required to prevent lubricant loss and the ingress of dirt.
Manufacturing is carried out to tolerance class P0 (also known as standard tolerance PN or ABEC 1). This accuracy grade defines precise limit dimensions for bore, outer diameter and concentricity. It reliably meets the requirements of general mechanical and plant engineering for standardised fits between shafts and housings.
The rings and rolling elements are made from fully hardened standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6. This material offers high hardness and dimensional stability under load. The cage is made of brass, which reduces wear at the points of contact with the rolling elements and provides resistance to lubricant additives. The bearing has no electrical insulation.
