The 6230 deep-groove ball bearing from FAG Wälzlager is an open, single-row radial ball bearing measuring 150 × 270 × 45 mm, designed for demanding industrial applications.
With the 6230 deep groove ball bearing, you get a single-row rolling bearing from FAG Wälzlager that is designed for high radial loads and additional axial forces. The open design, without sealing rings, allows unhindered access for lubricant and is particularly suitable for protected installation spaces, such as in gearboxes or enclosed machine housings. Manufactured from standard 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel with a sheet steel cage, the bearing covers a temperature range from -30 to +200 degrees.
The 6230 deep groove ball bearing is primarily suitable for applications in general mechanical engineering and in drive systems that must withstand significant radial forces. As this is an open design, the bearing is best suited for use in oil-lubricated recirculating systems or grease-lubricated housings. The sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with low friction and ensures smooth operation at standard speeds.
With this design, the surrounding structure determines the lubricant supply and protection against contamination, as the bearing has no integrated seals. You should therefore incorporate external shaft seals on the housing where necessary. The standard radial bearing clearance in tolerance class P0/PN (ABEC 1) is suitable for standard shaft and housing seats without extreme temperature differences between the inner and outer rings. Please check the mounting dimensions in advance, assuming a shaft diameter of 150 mm and a housing bore of 270 mm.
The 6230 deep-groove ball bearing has an inside diameter of 150 mm, an outside diameter of 270 mm and a width of 45 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical, without a flange or ring groove. These standardised key dimensions enable precise fitting onto suitable shafts and into standardised housing bores in mechanical engineering.
The open design without sealing washers allows direct lubrication via the machine’s lubrication system, for example via an oil bath or a recirculating lubrication system. Furthermore, there is no friction caused by rubbing sealing lips. In the case of open roller bearings, the surrounding housing seal is responsible for protection against dirt and moisture.
Normal radial bearing clearance refers to the internal clearance between the rolling elements and the raceways as supplied. This range is designed for standard fits on the shaft and housing. It helps to ensure that the operating clearance settles within the specified range after press-fitting, provided that there are no exceptional operating temperatures.
The bearing is designed for an operating temperature range of -30 to +200 degrees. The 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel used and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional and shape stability within this temperature range. The thermal suitability of the selected lubricating oil or grease is crucial for operation at higher temperatures.
The sheet steel cage maintains an even spacing between the rolling elements and prevents the balls from coming into direct contact with one another. It is characterised by its low weight and good resistance to lubricants. Furthermore, the sheet metal construction easily withstands the bearing’s permissible operating temperatures of up to +200 degrees.
The bearing complies with tolerance class P0/PN, which corresponds internationally to the ABEC 1 standard. This standard tolerance defines precise limit dimensions for the bore, outer diameter and concentricity. It is suitable for conventional applications in general mechanical engineering where standard requirements are placed on the running accuracy of the shaft.
