The SKF 6214 /VA201 deep-groove ball bearing, measuring 70x125x24 mm, can withstand temperatures ranging from -40 to +250 °C thanks to its special grease and manganese-phosphated surfaces.
The SKF 6214 /VA201 deep groove ball bearing is a single-row rolling bearing designed for demanding thermal operating conditions. With dimensions of 70 mm bore, 125 mm outside diameter and 24 mm width, this open bearing primarily accommodates radial loads. Both the rings and the rolling elements are manganese-phosphated, which improves wear protection at high temperatures. In combination with an integrated special grease, the bearing operates within a temperature range of -40 to +250 degrees Celsius.
This deep-groove ball bearing is used in technical environments subject to high thermal loads of up to +250 degrees Celsius. This design is suitable for bearing locations where high operating temperatures place particular demands on lubrication and materials. As no contact seals are fitted, operating heat can escape unhindered. At the same time, the sturdy sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly through the raceways, even under thermal stress.
At high temperatures, the shaft and bearing rings expand to different degrees. The significantly increased radial clearance compensates for this heat-induced expansion and prevents the bearing from becoming stressed or seized during operation. In addition, the manganese phosphating on the rings and rolling elements protects the metal surfaces from frictional wear and corrosion. The special grease applied at the factory lubricates the contact surfaces within a temperature range of -40 to +250 degrees Celsius and helps ensure a long service life.
The roller bearing has a bore of 70 mm for the shaft seat, an outer diameter of 125 mm and a width of 24 mm. These standardised key dimensions correspond to the common 6214 series, meaning that the bearing can be fitted into suitable housing seats. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove.
The permissible temperature range extends from -40 to +250 degrees Celsius. This wide range of applications is made possible by a special grease and the temperature-resistant properties of the materials. Both the rings and the rolling elements are treated with a manganese phosphate coating to enhance their thermal resistance, ensuring that the bearing remains functional even at high operating temperatures.
The increased bearing clearance helps to ensure that the bearing continues to run smoothly even when the inner and outer rings heat up unevenly. As metals expand noticeably at high operating temperatures of up to +250 degrees Celsius, standard bearing clearance would lead to stress. The additional radial clearance compensates for this thermal expansion of the material during operation.
This is an open bearing without cover plates or sealing washers, which is filled ex-works with a special heat-resistant grease. As there are no elastic sealing lips, there are no friction losses at the sealing contact. The open design also facilitates heat dissipation under thermally demanding conditions, but requires a clean installation environment.
Manganese phosphating produces a microfine protective layer on the rings and rolling elements. This layer improves the adhesion of the lubricant and reduces frictional wear during running-in. It also provides effective protection against fretting corrosion and corrosion, which has a positive effect on the bearing’s service life in thermally demanding environments.
The bearing is manufactured to tolerance class P0 or PN, which corresponds to ABEC 1 classification. This defines the permissible dimensional and runout deviations for standard industrial applications. The manufacturing precision ensures a precise fit on 70 mm shafts and contributes to the smooth rolling of the rolling elements in the raceways.
