The single-row SKF deep groove ball bearing 61852 MA features a 260 mm bore, a 320 mm outer diameter and an externally guided brass cage, all within a compact design.
As a thin-section bearing, the 61852 MA deep-groove ball bearing is one of the space-saving rolling bearings designed for large shaft diameters. This open-type SKF component primarily accommodates radial loads and supports shafts with a small cross-sectional area. Thanks to the solid brass cage guided on the outer ring, the design is suitable for demanding speed conditions and thermal loads ranging from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius. Manufactured from 100Cr6 rolling-bearing steel, it offers the necessary dimensional stability for industrial use.
Design engineers prefer to use this bearing series where large hollow shafts or housing bushings need to be supported in confined spaces. The bearing is used in general mechanical engineering, in gearbox designs and in rotary joints. As the 61852 MA deep-groove ball bearing is designed as an open bearing, it can be lubricated directly with oil or grease via the machine’s lubrication circuit. The cylindrical outer ring, which has no groove, fits precisely into flat housing bores.
The suffix ‘MA’ denotes a solid brass cage that is guided within the outer ring. Compared to sheet metal cages, brass dampens vibrations and exhibits emergency running properties in the event of brief lubricant shortages. The guidance on the outer ring stabilises the rolling element guidance even during rapid acceleration and at higher speeds. When designing the bearing, it should be noted that it is designed with standard radial clearance (CN) and standard tolerance class P0, which facilitates installation on standard-compliant fit seats.
The bearing has an internal diameter of 260 mm, an external diameter of 320 mm and a width of 28 mm. These dimensions correspond to a thin-ring design, which allows for a comparatively compact housing diameter even with a large shaft diameter.
The abbreviation MA stands for a solid brass cage that is guided on the flanges of the outer ring. This cage design increases the guidance accuracy of the balls at varying speeds, improves shock resistance and reduces the mechanical stress on the rolling elements compared with standard sheet metal cages.
The open design, without integrated cover plates or sealing discs, allows for flexible integration into existing lubrication systems such as oil circulation systems or grease baths. It also allows for unhindered lubricant exchange, but requires a sealed environment within the housing to prevent the ingress of dirt particles.
Thanks to the combination of standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 and the brass cage, the component is suitable for an operating temperature range of -20 to +150 degrees Celsius. The lubricant selected must be suited to the respective operating temperature in order to form a load-bearing lubricating film between the rolling elements and the raceways.
The bearing is manufactured with a standard radial clearance, which is designed for typical fit selections and standard operating temperatures. The tolerances for dimensional and radial runout accuracy comply with the standard class P0 (equivalent to ABEC 1), which ensures a precise fit on standardised shaft and housing fits.
