The SKF 6209 deep groove ball bearing, with a 45 mm bore and an 85 mm outer diameter, offers a tried-and-tested design for predominantly radial loads.
The 6209 deep groove ball bearing is a versatile, single-row rolling bearing in an open design. With key dimensions of 45 mm inner diameter, 85 mm outer diameter and 19 mm width, this radial ball bearing complies with standardised dimensions. Manufactured from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6), the component withstands continuous mechanical stresses in industrial and trade applications. SKF’s Explorer design is engineered for smooth running, low friction and an operating temperature range of –20 to +120 degrees.
The 6209 deep groove ball bearing primarily accommodates high radial forces as well as moderate axial forces in both directions. Installation is particularly recommended in enclosed housings with an existing lubrication system, as the open design does not feature integrated sealing protection. The dimensionally stable sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements with minimal vibration and is designed to withstand the dynamic loads encountered during continuous industrial operation.
The open design without sealing washers allows direct access of lubricant to the balls and raceways via an oil or grease supply within the housing. This ensures the bearing remains easily accessible for visual inspections and relubrication. With standard radial bearing clearance (standard), the bearing provides the appropriate clearance between the rolling elements and raceways at standard operating temperatures and with standard fits. Combined with tolerance class P0 (ABEC 1), this provides you with a precise guidance element for classic industrial applications.
This radial ball bearing has a bore of 45 mm, an outer diameter of 85 mm and a total width of 19 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove. With these dimensions, the bearing can be fitted into standardised housing bores and mounted on suitable shafts.
Open roller bearings do not come with integrated seals or cover plates as standard. Lubricating oil or grease flows unimpeded directly onto the raceways of the inner and outer rings. Installation is recommended in clean, enclosed housings, where external seals protect the bearing from contamination and lubricant loss.
Normal bearing clearance refers to the operating clearance specified by the manufacturer for the rolling elements when the bearing is unloaded and there is no thermal expansion. This standard clearance is sufficient for most industrial applications involving moderate heating and standard shaft and housing fits, without causing internal stresses within the bearing.
The ball bearing is specified for operating temperatures between -20 and +120 degrees. Within this temperature range, both the standard roller bearing steel and the sheet steel cage retain their dimensional stability and strength. When designing the lubrication system, care must be taken to ensure that the selected lubricant can withstand the operating temperatures encountered.
The sheet steel cage keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance from one another and prevents them from coming into direct contact with each other. This reduces internal friction and noise. Sheet steel cages are lightweight, dimensionally stable and resistant to common mineral oil- or synthetic-based lubricants.
The standard roller bearing steel 100Cr6 offers high compressive strength, wear resistance and fatigue resistance at the contact surfaces between the raceway and the ball. It forms the tried-and-tested metallurgical basis for long-lasting radial bearings in mechanical engineering and is designed to withstand recurring dynamic loads.
