The NU222 ECM/C3 cylindrical roller bearing from SKF Rolling Bearings, as a free bearing measuring 110 × 200 × 38 mm, accommodates high radial forces with increased C3 bearing clearance.
The NU222 ECM/C3 cylindrical roller bearing is designed to accommodate high radial forces in industrial shaft mountings. This SKF rolling bearing is a single-row bearing with an optimised internal design and solid cylindrical rollers. As the NU design functions as a non-locating bearing, the inner ring can be removed from both sides. This facilitates installation and maintenance work, whilst axial length changes in the shaft during operation can be compensated for directly within the bearing without causing stress.
This rolling bearing is primarily used where heavy radial loads act on rotating shafts and axial displacements occur at the same time. Typical applications are found in industrial bearing arrangements subject to high radial forces and thermal length changes in the shaft. Thanks to its open design without seals, the bearing is integrated directly into lubricated housings. The temperature range of –30 to +150 degrees covers demanding thermal environmental conditions in continuous industrial operation.
This variant is characterised by the combination of the robust brass cage and the slightly increased radial clearance (C3). Brass cages offer high resistance to dynamic shock loads and vibrations. The increased C3 bearing clearance helps to ensure that the bearing remains operational even in the event of thermal expansion of the shaft and inner ring or in the case of tight fits. Furthermore, the component offers improved running accuracy to tolerance class P6 or ABEC 3, whilst maintaining standard dimensional accuracy to tolerance class P0/PN or ABEC 1.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and can be removed from either side. As a result, the component functions purely as a floating bearing, which compensates for changes in the shaft’s length due to thermal expansion without any constraint within the bearing.
With a bore diameter of 110 mm, an outside diameter of 200 mm and a width of 38 mm, the bearing complies with the standardised dimensions for radial cylindrical roller bearings of this size.
ECM refers to an optimised internal design combined with a solid brass cage. This design is characterised by smooth rolling action and high resistance to vibrations and impact forces.
The designation C3 indicates a slightly increased bearing clearance compared with the standard version. It is selected when significant heating during operation or oversizes in the fit between the shaft and housing lead to a radial reduction in the bearing clearance.
The bearing combines dimensional accuracy in accordance with tolerance class Normal (P0 or ABEC 1) with increased running accuracy in accordance with class P6 or ABEC 3. This ensures precise concentricity whilst maintaining standardised mounting dimensions.
As this is an open bearing without integrated seals, the installation location requires the housing to be sealed externally. Lubrication is provided by the surrounding housing system, which is suitable for a temperature range of -30 to +150 degrees.
