The NU224 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG is a single-row non-locating bearing with a brass cage, designed for high radial loads, with a bore of 120 mm and an outer diameter of 215 mm.
The NU224 -E-M1 cylindrical roller bearing from FAG Rolling Bearings is a single-row radial roller bearing designed primarily to withstand high radial loads. This design features a bore diameter of 120 mm, an outer diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. Designed as an open bearing, it can be flexibly integrated into oil- or grease-lubricated recirculating systems. A robust brass cage guides the cylindrical rollers and is suitable for demanding operating conditions in industrial drives.
This radial roller bearing is particularly suitable for shaft mountings where purely radial forces occur under high loads. Thanks to the line contact between the rollers and raceways, the design withstands heavy loads. The permissible temperature range extends from –30 to +150 degrees. The design compensates for axial thermal expansion of the shaft directly at the bearing location without any constraint.
The NU design features two fixed flanges on the outer ring, whilst the inner ring is flangeless and removable from both sides. As a result, the bearing functions purely as a non-locating bearing and allows for axial longitudinal displacement of the shaft relative to the housing. The solid brass cage (designation M1) offers high rigidity under vibrations or sudden changes in speed. With standard radial clearance and standard tolerance to P0/ABEC 1, the bearing fits into standard interference fits.
The bearing has an inside diameter of 120 mm, an outside diameter of 215 mm and a width of 40 mm. These key dimensions determine the required installation space on the shaft and in the housing bore. The outer ring has no ring groove and no lubrication bore.
In the NU design, the outer ring guides the rollers between two fixed flanges. The inner ring has no flanges and can be withdrawn from either side. The component thus acts purely as a non-locating bearing, which accommodates thermal linear expansion of the shaft without constraint within the bearing housing.
The brass cage, marked M1, keeps the rolling elements at a uniform distance apart and withstands severe vibrations and high acceleration forces. Brass is characterised by good emergency running properties and mechanical stability, which is advantageous in the event of shock loads or demanding lubrication conditions.
As the bearing is designed to be open and without integrated seals, the housing design must provide the necessary sealing. Depending on the system design, the roller bearing can be operated using grease or via a lubricating oil circuit. Regular relubrication maintains the lubricating film between the rollers and raceways.
The permissible temperature range is between –30 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the dimensional stability of the bearing rings and the material of the brass cage are designed for this range. When determining the operating temperature, the suitability of the selected lubricant must be taken into account.
The component has a standard radial bearing clearance (CN) and complies with tolerance class P0 (standard precision or ABEC 1). This design is suitable for typical industrial applications with standard fits on the shaft and housing, without any excessive thermal or dimensional requirements.
