The SKF 6205/C4 deep groove ball bearing with a 25 mm bore offers significantly increased C4 clearance and tight tolerances for demanding industrial applications.
This single-row SKF 6205/C4 deep groove ball bearing is designed to withstand predominantly radial loads as well as moderate axial forces. The manufacturer produces this version in the Explorer performance class from standard roller bearing steel (100Cr6). A sheet steel cage guides the rolling elements evenly along the raceway. The combination of a 25 mm cylindrical bore, a 52 mm outer diameter and a 15 mm width makes this open rolling bearing a versatile component for rotating shafts in machine designs.
This bearing type is primarily used where significant temperature differences occur between the inner and outer rings during operation. Thanks to the greatly increased internal bearing clearance, the component compensates for thermal expansion of the shaft and housing. Typical applications include designs with shaft bearings subject to thermal stress. As this is an open design without integrated sealing washers, the installation location requires an enclosing housing with its own seal, as well as an external lubricant supply.
The internal radial bearing clearance C4 is significantly greater than the standard dimension. This characteristic helps to ensure that the bearing does not become stressed due to operational heating or tight fits. In addition, this component features dimensional accuracy to Class P6 and running accuracy to Class P5. These tight tolerance classes ensure low-vibration concentricity at operating temperatures ranging from –20 to +150 degrees Celsius.
The suffix C4 indicates a significantly increased radial bearing clearance compared with the standard dimension. This radial clearance compensates for thermal linear expansion of the shaft or dimensional changes caused by tight fits during operation, without the bearing becoming stressed.
The bearing has a bore of 25 mm, an outside diameter of 52 mm and a width of 15 mm. The outer ring is cylindrical in design and has neither a flange nor a ring groove, which facilitates precise installation in cylindrical housing bores.
This product is manufactured to P6 dimensional accuracy and P5 running accuracy. This classification implies tighter manufacturing tolerances than the standard specification, which improves concentricity, reduces running noise and ensures precise shaft guidance.
As this model does not have any integrated seals, lubrication is provided by the surrounding system, for example via an oil bath, an external circulating lubrication system or by filling with grease as required during assembly.
The permissible operating temperature range is between -20 and +150 degrees Celsius. Both the roller bearing steel and the steel sheet cage are designed for this temperature range, provided that the lubricant used can withstand the relevant thermal requirements.
As a single-row radial ball bearing, the design primarily absorbs radial forces. Thanks to the deep raceways in the inner and outer rings, the component is also suitable for transmitting moderate axial loads in both directions.
